I am having a huge problem trying to order a 17" from Apple direct. All i get is Indian answering the phone and they cant speak english properly. It's really annoying because i can't understand what they are saying to me over the phone at a long distant.

I was trying to order the next generation 17" for my wife - I asked these indian people if i could order a new next generation in a 17" - but i kept hearing them repeating over and over "yeah it's new".

"Is it the new next generation?" I said, they replied "yeah it's new".

I repeat again "I want the next generation in a 17 inch could you make sure it is the next generation that I am ordering as a present for my wife?"

"Yeah it's new" in thicker stronger Indian accent.

    I lost it "&*^* #&( @#& ( )#( (# you so and so (@#*(&#@^#"

"Thank you Sir" in Indian accent nonchalantly

"Listen Pal i want you to make sure I am ordering the NEW NEXT Generation and make sure it's a 2.8Ghz"

    "Yes Sir it's new 2.5Ghz"

    *CLICK* "*@#^ YOU"

That was the end of an attempt to purchase that Apple New Next Generation 17" 2.8Ghz for the Chef.

There is no "next gen 17inch". The 17 inch still has the previous generation design, no unibody stuff as yet....

Ask them nicely to talk to their supervisor? The way I see it, the accents would get less thick the higher up you go.

Thanks for the tip :) i never even thought of that.

I don't like treating people bad or making them feel unimportant by asking to speak to someone else - especially their supervisor.

But ---- and I say BUT - in this circumstances i really should.

Even if they spoke the english, you would not be able to order this next generation 17in, that line hasn't been updated yet so it doesn't even exist. Or do you consider the current model next generation? They did make a few updates to it, but I wouldn't call it "next generation."

No i really have to get the new gen for my wife. She is not happy with the 15" version because it lacks the kind of resolution she needs for her work.

She does pretty high end video and photography work and requires 1920x1200 at least.

I suppose Indians are allowed in Australia aren't they?

Let's not get racist. I was just saying their accent is horrible to understand.

Must have been a bad luck day i didn't get to speak to an American.

I wouldn't buy anything from Australia even if your life depended on it.

    Tyronne:
afaik, Apple isn't taking pre-orders for the refreshed unibody aluminum 17" MBP. There is no way to order it now with current pricing and get the new one when it is released just because you paid early, unfortunately; and I haven't seen anything that even talks about what the price will be on release.

It is rumored to be coming out sometime in mid-late November, but that's it. We'll have to wait until pricing is announced, but you can't order something from Apple in advance of it being released. You're attempting do accomplish something that is impossible -- sorry.

Unfortunately, I'll have to close this thread as its strayed off topic a bit. Just some clarification, the 17-inch MBP was not redesigned and was not updated, so there is no new one of that. I expect the MBP to get the redesign maybe February or so, I think they may possibly be holding out for some unreleased graphics card to wow us.
