Ok. Im mainly a PC guy but my good friend has a nice fairly new (not the new chip though) G5 Powerbook. She is trying to save money and NOT buy an apple wireless router. She is haveing a heck of a time making a linksys router work consistently. She cant update the firmware cause she cant run the setup CD on a mac and has to. The support people have basically said, "ahhh we dont know how to make it work for mac, only PC"

    My question is simple.

Is anyone here running a fairly new Apple notebook on a wireless router that is not made by apple.
If so, what one, how easy was it to set up, and have there been any problems???

    Thank you so much.

Well, I had a preexisting wireless network when I bought this machine. I have it locked down by Mac address. Our router is new enough that it gets configured via web browser. I never had to "make it work for mac" - I just turned on my Mac and it found the network, asked for my password, and I told my network that my Mac was allowed on. I believe we have a Linksys wireless router, the PC setup was a pain in the butt, but it works great now, and the Mac setup was quick and painless. No problems at all.

    Exact same thing with me.

I just simply connected, added my network to the autojoin and saved my password to keychain and the computer automatically detects the network and connects, it also has permission to connect as my Mac address settings is allowing it too.

It might be a defective wireless router, and defective routers are commonplace almost, usually an exchange fixes it.
