So when I'm at home using my powerbook i use a wifi connection at 1.5 mbps and my internet usage is awesome.

But when I go to school and connect into my 3 mbps ethernet connection it is slow as hell. I have a PC and when it ran on the ethernet connection it was fast, and i've speed tested this baby and it it shows the internet at 3 mbps. Im not quite sure what is causing the slow down, but maybe someone could help me?

Well at school alot of other people are using the network and consuming bandwidth, so of course its gonna be a lot slower than at home where just one or two users are using it.

That would explain it, but when i had my pc here it would load pages quite a bit faster, so that is what is confusing

Clean out your cache for that specific IP address, and see what happens. Are you on a router at school? A wireless G router at 3mb/s will not be as fast as a Wireless N router at 3mb/s. Mabye even try a different browser. ;)

didnt tell us what OS your running... it does matter...

you need to try loading time differences going to a normal URL then going to that URLs IP address, so DNS isnt used at all... to determine if the slowness is a DNS issue, which it usually is with OSX, as it uses newer DNS protocols that some peoples DNS servers wont use right... its stupid on the people running the DNS servers though, not Apple, cuz even though its newer and OSX is the main users, its a standard thats like 8+ years old now... and most DNS servers can handle it. I know with my ISP for awhile I had to use different DNS servers tilt he upgraded theirs recently, or all DNS look ups would be SUPER slow... just on OSX... but it really only effects you if your using 10.5
