Is there a way or software that wil detect if your on battery or mains that will automatically turn off bluetooth, IR, etc when your on battery and turn them back on when it's on the mains?

I know the energy saver in the preferences panel has some control over brightness and putting the notebook to sleep but nothing that will turn things off like bluetooth and IR.

I just turn them off by default. Hardly ever need them. Why do you only need them on mains and not when on battery? I would imagin it to be annoying if you are using the bluetooth connection and then it gets cut when you unplug the notebook.

I'd like to be able to set whether it turns them off or not so if I did want bluetooth to stay on I can go into the settings and disable it.

It was just something I thought would be useful. I like to keep the IR on to use evey now and again but not when it's on battery. Also I sync my phone via bluetooth and although I haven't tested it yet, I'm sure it doesn't turn the bluetooth off after it syncs.

Correction. iSync doesn't even turn on or even ask to turn on bluetooth when you press the sync button when you have a paired phone.

Try out marco polo. I just started using it, its free and it allows you to setup a variety of rules, based on your location. So for instance, when I'm at work it auto turns on bluetooth, but when I get home it switches to wifi and turns bluetooth off.

Heh - that's exactly what the my Acer did by default. And it was very annoying. I lost connection like this about 2 times before I uninstalled Acer's energy management software.
