I am going to be buying a new Macbook Pro pretty soon, and of course I would love to get the best deal possible. I am a college student, so I can take advantage of the student discount for $200 off the MBP. However, I was looking around, and it turns out a student ADC membership costs $99. With this membership comes a single hardware discount (valid for once in a lifetime) opening up the possibility of a new MBP for $1599! Of course, the membership costs $99, but the net cost would still be only $1698! As far as I can tell, there is nothing stopping any student from doing this, receiving a rock bottom price and a portal into the world of Apple developers. Correct me if anything is incorrect, but this seems like one sweet deal. :D

Yes, it is a sweet deal. If you want to take advantage of this, go ahead!

And maybe by joining, you'll be motivated to do some development work for the Mac too! Start easy, with widgets :D.

Apple Canada kills it for me. That 200$+ price on mbp beats my discount :p
Funny, but I think it's cheaper for me to buy one on ebay then to get one from Apple Canada with ADC discount.

    Very disappointing.

Yeah, Apple really needs to readjust its Canadian pricing. Even though the Canadian dollar is now actually higher than the American dollar, Canadian prices are still higher...the iPod Nano costs $20 more, the Touch costs $30 more!

Is it possible to purchase and register the ADC Student Membership at an Apple retail store in the US?

    Thanks,

No its all done through the ADC website; you also have to send in verification of your student status, such as your Student ID and current class schedule. It takes about a day or two for them to verify everything.
