A lot of the EA Games that I want say on the apple website that they require the Intel X1600 or higher series. Does that mean that I can play C&C on a Macbook with the X3100?

Or should I just get the MBP. I don't plan to instal XP/Vista on my mac, as I want to just use the Mac OSX, and I have a desktop with XP.

if you are interested in gaming, you should buy a PC if you are on a budget.

if price is not a factor, you'll need a macbook pro (or imac) to play the latest 3d games.

there is a semantics issue with the x1600 and the x3100. the x1600 is an ATI dedicated midrange gpu, one generation back. in the grand scheme of things, it is powerful and can play the latest games, etc. i'm sure they meant the ATI x1600 or greater. That means (for mobile parts) you are looking at the x1k series from ATI, hd 2k series (ATI), 7k or 8k series (Nvidia).

the x3100 is Intel's most recent integrated gpu. It can run some recentish games like half life 2 at least decently, but is not expected to be able to run the latest games. The x3100 can most likely handle c&c3 in low/medium resolution and lowish settings (at least in windows, likely not at all in osx), but you will have a much smoother experience with a dedicated gpu anyway.

Seriously I've only heard negative things about EA games on a Mac so it would be better if you get the Windows EA games and play them on your Mac using bootcamp. As someone else said before C&C would probably not run on a Macbook with Intel X3100 graphics.

I run C&C generals with the settings at minimum on my 2ghz macbook 1gb of ram and video card before the x3100. Not sure which it is.

I run it in boot camp running xp pro.

Command & Conquer 3, or Command & Conquer Generals?

Anyway, C&C Generals runs on a MacBook, but of course it could be even better with dedicated graphics. I'm not sure about C&C 3, but even if the MacBook can run it, it won't be as good.

What's with all the banned people posting in this forum these days? :p

I don't know whether or not you'll be able to play at all on the X3100, but if you are, I doubt it would be on very high settings.

I played C&C3 on my old desktop that barely was able to play it (all settings at min.). C&C3 really really sucks at low graphics settings - it literally feels like you're playing C&C1 with different units and a shorter storyline. (of course, you may feel that's a good thing I suppose...who knows).

Still, C&C scales well, but that also means the graphics don't really do it justice unless you play it at decent settings.

Story behind that...although I don't know if I can reveal it in the public forums :p.

Pft :p tease. Now that's just asking for a PM ... XD

Here's some more info on the EA/Cider OSX port of C&C3:

In sum - it won't work at all (you won't be able to install it even).

On the other hand, the Windows version will install under even the GMA950 - except it'll really suck. But if you really want to play it, running the Windows version under Boot Camp might be an option.

fwiw, i played through a few levels of the mac cider port of c&c3 on my macbook pro. i didn't exactly do any benchmarking, but it seemed to work fine. i didn't leave it installed. c&c3 just isn't that special to me. dunno why. *misses red alert*
