I am sure there are many out there using Photoshop on their MacBook ... my two questions are ..

Are there any handicaps to this, since the MB doesn't have a dedicated graphic's processor?

And, does the screen size make it frustrating to use?

    Thanks for any feedback.

So not to add another thread, I was thinking about getting a MB but I'm concerned about not having a dedicated graphics and the MBP is so much more expensive. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What kinds of images will you be doing?

It's better to fill out the FAQs

I would consider the screen size frustrating for any real photoshop work.

But, not having dedicated graphics is not really a problem for photoshop. Just don't expect to do any modern 3d games.

Photoshop is more CPU intensive than GPU, and the Core2Duo CPUs of the Macbook shine. I run Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks very well on my Macbook.
But yeah, the screen on the Macbook is a bit small, but just hook it up to a 22" NEC monitor and you're in safe territory.

The main thing Photoshop wants isn't a dedicated GPU, but RAM (and possibly CPU, but CPU is certainly not an issue for a Macbook). If you have enough RAM (and 1GB is certainly a good starting point - I would upgrade to 2GB if I were you however), I don't think using Photoshop on a Macbook should be a problem. The screen size, and max resolution, might however be negative - depending on what kind of work you do in Photoshop I guess. I don't do graphics, so I don't really know what you people want besides the constant cries for more screen real estate that I read everywhere ;)

One solution to that is of course to use an external monitor, where you could go up to 1920x1200. But if Photoshop is one of the main things you want to do, having to use an external monitor to achieve the resolution you want is of course less than perfect.

In the end, up to you - what are your needs? Are you satisfied with a 13.3" screen with 1280x800 resolution for doing Photoshop work? Try a Macbook at a store near you, see how you like it. Maybe a Macbook Pro is more suited to your needs? 15.4" at 1440x900 and a choice of matte/glossy screen is certainly a step up for size, while not really sacrificing much in the way of portability (weight is about the same for Macbook and Macbook Pro).

Photoshop runs fine on my Macbook. (Check sig for specs) The latest version CS3 is UB, meaning it'll run much better than CS2, so if you're planning on getting Photoshop, either get CS3 or wait for a UB version of Elements to come out.

I, too, am debating whether to get a MB or a refurbished MBP. I can't really justify the price jump for 2 more inches of real estate though--I'll probably just pick up an external monitor.

I'm eyeing the Dell 2007WFP, it's only 339 bucks! Cheaper than going for the MBP.
