I wonder what kind of GPU they were showing it on...a Quadro FX 5600? Maybe a Tesla? I wonder if I'll see any improvement on my dear old Intel GMA.

I hope Adobe release a GPU accelerated version of Flash Professional, since that is the application I use most.

Well that sounds good. But still that GPU acceleration will be for people who do really high definition photo editing using high res pictures. Damn i hope my mac could still run it. I dont think it would be a major requirement though. Hell i still work with images that are about 5 megapixels.

oh my holy mother of god is there really going to be a real rotate canvas tool!!!!!!!! OHHHHH! YESS!! OH OH OH. ...

excuse me! I couldn't restratin myself, that is just about the best news I have ever heard in my entire life.

seriously though. for anyone who has used Painter, this news is basically orgasmic.

doesn't CS3 already use the GPU to some extend, i believe it does. according to preferences, unless that is all just bollacks.

nice good to hear, sounds like there moving it towards being a bit of a 3d rendering software as well, interesting. when is cs4 going to be available?

^ i think for the extended version that the gpu would be of some use but overall im pretty sure its mostly cpu reliant.

this 3d stuff you mention is already available in CS3, just for the record.

Maya photoshop will be not. Maya is basically an operating system that can do anything at this point.

I hate to break up the excitement but most likely Adobe will release the Windows version first as they always do to us Mac users. :(

I guess seeing they share a common code base between Mac and Windows versions they won't be using the existing Core Image architecture. Anyways, it took them long enough to do GPU acceleration given that Aperture has been using it all this time.

    http://www.pixelmator.com/

Been doing it for quite some time now.

But what about all of those gimped Macs that have Intel GPUs? Will Apple finally realize that a $1400 (after taxes) computer should have a dedicated GPU? Especially when their $229 Apple TV has one?

Hey just want to throw a quick fork in the road on this thread - I'm about to get into the whole photo editing deal. Just for kicks - nothing major, as I'm a novice photographer and dont plan on doing any major projects. Whats a good program to start to play around with? I've done a bit in iPhoto, but I dont really like the app. Is Aperture a good starting point?

As far as I've heard, Aperture is a great program for pro photographers that need to touch up their photos or adjust global settings to get the desired affect and have it all nicely organized in a library, i.e. iPhoto style. Kinda like iPhoto on steroids.

if you are a good photographer you should easily be able to get buy with Aperture only.

if you are looking to do more experimental things or illustration, animation, design, etc.

Take a look at Photoshop Elements. They offer a free 30 day trial, although it can be difficult to find for Mac. The newest version comes with Adobe's Camera RAW and Bridge which is great for processing RAW and organizing your photos. To be honest, unless you know that there is a feature in CS3 that you need, Elements is almost always the better choice. It does 95% of what its big brother does, but with a more user-friendly interface and a much more reasonable price.

As for CS4, wasn't there an issue over Adobe using Cocoa? I thought that is why we will not have a 64-bit version.

Yeah Cocoa is apparently only running in 64 bit. Adobe would have to go through millions of lines of code to make sure it works properly. So no 64 bit for mac os x. Maybe with CS 5. But really do we know the differences between a 64 bit version and a 32 bit?

yep. it'd be able to access a lot more ram than the 2.7gb it access right now.
