I am concidering purchasing Photoshop for my Macbook, I have used the program before and was happy with the results I was able to achieve. (I am a fine artist and like to "play around" with images). Does anyone have any suggestions re other programs available that I will be able to create the same/better results? Your help would be much appreciated.

I never tried this myself but some people i know use GIMPshop which is sort of like Photoshop but it is free.

I have used Corel Painter Essentials as my picture editing tool and i liked that. It also allowed me to use it as an art tool as well.

aperture doesnt do a fraction of what photoshop can do in manipulating images :)

it's more for RAW editing and batch workflow... an excellent tool but not a replacement for photoshop. check it out though if you shoot a lot of RAW or even large batches of similar pics

Photoshop is pretty much it when it comes to serious photo editing unfortunately.

Photoshop is de facto in photo/image editing. Aperture is more towards organizing thousands of photos and adding tags and RAW editing. Not the photo editing that Photoshop does.

Basically, Photoshop is the industry standard and the best for these types of tasks. Its used by amateurs and professionals.
