I am trying to restore a pocket drive for a friend who's backup program when crazy and deleted the entire drive but all of my recovery programs are for Windows so instead of just running Fusion and using that, I am trying to use an OS X program and found a Mac version of PhotoRec.

Anyone have any tips for using it? I didn't know it was a terminal program and am attempting to get the hang of it...

Okay so has anyone used it before? I am figured most of it out but it won't let me choose to save the recovered data to my external drive. I think this is because my external is NTSF (windows format). I use NTSF-3G so my Mac has never had any problems reading and writing to it but for some reason Photorec won't let me select it... any ideas?

Sorry, no idea, I use photorec regularly but have a dedicated win2K box for running it. never tried it on any of my mac's. you should be able to create a separate folder on your machine to direct the output to there then copy it to external when complete

Crap, okay that does complicate things slightly. im guessing no other externals you can format quickly into HSF.

IF I get time this evening I may try to toss it on one of my UB's and see if I can get it to work.

Okay no worries man, I was just hopping someone would have experience with photorec and can offer some pointers. All else fails, I am going to my parents house this weekend and can just use their windows desktop to scan the drive.
