Guys, is there any review for the 17 inch Macbook Pro with the hi-resolution LED screen? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

There doesn't seem to be any good reviews for the 17" penryn specifically. Most MBP reviews clump the 15 and 17 inch versions into one review since the only difference is size, resolution and 1 usb port.

The closest I got after 10 seconds of googling was this:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/apple-macbook-pro-2008/4505-3121_7-32868778.html?tag=pdtl-list

If its the high res screen you want to know more about, then you're better off looking for reviews of the first mbp release with the high res

Nobody bothers to review the 17" MBP. Pretty much everything thats said about the 15" can be said about the 17" to some degree, and the 15" outsells the 17 by a long ways.

If you are so anxious to see the screen, just go to an Apple store and check it out for yourself - then you get a better view of the screen and stuff, rather than just what some guy reviewing it says.

Also, anything by CNet is probably not worthy of being called a review. Just sayin'.

I DID A REVIEW OF THE 17" MODEL!!!! I was even compensated for it by this site. They just never bothered to post the freaking thing!!!!!

I took a ton of excellent pics and even did a little stop motion animation, because well, that's just how I do.

email the crap out of this sites admins and tell them to post it!

listen to the people NBR admins!!!!!!!

I may try to take the time and post it up myself, I would just rather have it be official because that way it will actually be in the system.

    here is a little taste:

MBP in Motion very crappy, flickering, jerky motion.

enjoy. and don't hold the terrible animation against me, I had 10 min to spare, and I did that in about 5, haha.

ive been through several 15" mbp the past months and now ended up with the 17" hi res mbp.

All I can say is that the screen is gorgeous, the 17" mbp seems to run faster overall im sure it has something to do with the bigger logic board and the bigger and more efficient heat sink.

The reason I exchanged the 15" mbp 7-8 times is because of the left speaker issue with the sizzling noise.

The 17" mbp didnt have this issue + no hiss noise via headphone jack. Anyway I even sold my 23" acd just to use 1 single 17" hi res and couldnt be happier. Osx seems to run more fluidly as to the 2.6ghz 15" that I had as well.

Speakers are awesome and runs very very cool, im guessing more heat dissipate but does clock up faster so it runs as cool as the 15" penryn mbp did.

Circa, why don't you just post it here for us then? I've been waiting for that review for like forever, shaggy might have convinced me to skip the 15" in favor of the 17", I just need a little nudge, and when I say nudge, I mean i need your review!

Thanks guys for your replies.I am aware that the 15 inch and the 17 inch are pretty much similar except for the extra USB port and the screen, however I just wanted to read a review.

    Thanks for the link Sam.

And circa86, if you can, please post the review here. I think it would benefit a lot of people here.

The first release 1920x1200 screen was CCFL, vs. the current LED version.

My nickel review. I personally own a 15" Penryn MBP with an LED screen. And work just got me a 17" Penryn with the LED screen.

Both screens are excellent. The 17" gets the nod. So bright. So even. The resolution so fine the text just looks gorgeous.

The 6MB cache seems to make some sort of slight difference. My 2.4 is no slouch, but the 2.5 seems to have a wee bit more determination and responsiveness or what not. Barely perceptible, but it seems like it's there.

The 3rd USB slot is nice.

Personally, I feel that the 17" depreciates more, compared to the $1999 MBP in particular, so, I'll keep buying the 15" since I sell them every 18 months or so, and hope they put a 1680x1050 screen in there. But, if you were going to keep the laptop for ~3 years or so. The 17" with hi-res screen is pretty lush.

I have got the chance to use both models in pretty much the same configuration and it is hard to argue against the LED backlight, it really is excellent, it is a shame they didn't update the whole MBP line at the same time to LED backlights, but I am perfectly happy with my CCFL High Resolution model, it is just a lot of pixels in one place.

I am writing this on my 17" MacBook Pro (more specifically I'm using my Windows XP virtual machine by way of Parallels). It's important to note that I did not choose this laptop -- my boss chose it for me.

It's a nifty machine, but I think it's way too expensive. I'd be fine with a much cheaper PC business notebook...especially one from Lenovo or Dell. In fact, although I know my way around Mac OS X I spend most of my time in Windows. This one was wasted on me.

    Pros:
Huge, glorious screen -- great for playing DVDs on the road
iSight camera takes excellent photos...although they are always backwards and have to be flipped
    More than enough power
Relatively thin and light for a 17" desktop replacement notebook
    Slot-loading DVD +/- RW drive

    Cons:
    Extremely high price
I don't care how thin and lightweight you make it, a 17" notebook is still too bulky for airplanes...my friend's 15" MBP felt just right
    Mediocre battery life
Why isn't there a 10-key pad? Every 17-inch PC laptop has one
Screen only flexes 135 degrees...why not 180? My wife accidentally broke the hinges on my monitor this way, leading to a very expensive screen replacement
    Quirky power management
Unable to get clear screen captures from Windows without an external keyboard and a PrtScn key...the Apple-Shift-4 process produces subpar images
Expensive, strange docking station...so I just don't have one
