    Hey Guys,

I am planning on buying a 1 TB time capsule for my mbp. I was just wondering whether the time capsule can be partitioned into two drives? Like for instance, 500gb for storage and 500gb for time machine backup? Can you please also mention the steps that are involved in partitioning the time capsule?

I am living in a student hall and we are not allowed to setup a wireless network. So, do you think its worth going for the time capsule? in other words, will I be able to use the time capsule as a wireless external hard drive without a wifi connection present and will i be able to connect a printer to it (time capsule) and then send documents that needs printing, wirelessly?

if your not allowed a wireles netowrk just get an external HDD. you CAN ask your schools IT dept but if they specify no wireless networks for whatever reason, the TC becomes overkill cince they may not be happy about you establishing a wireless network to share your files and printer with yourself either

CHeers thanks for the reply mate. My biggest question is, can it be partitioned so that half of it can work for time machine and the rest can function as an external hard drive?

There are ways to partition TC using the terminal but it's not officially supported by Apple. You may be better off simply using the existing partition for your storage of "other files". Then direct Time Machine to substitute a limited limited size of backup file to keep TC's backup size from crowding your storage space.

Here is a description of a process of substituting such a limited backup file. Apple - Support - Discussions - How to limit the size of Time Machine ...
