Anyone done any comparisons between parallels and vmware? Just wondering if VMware has closed the gap on performance in their Fusion beta?

I think VMware if you're doing basic things, as it uses less resources. It's new unity feature is very cool as well, better than Parallels coherence.

Parallels on the other hand is better for 3D more intensive things, but uses way more RAM and CPU.

I've used VMware for quite a while now under windows and linux and in the past year have seen an explosion of VMware ESX/GSX usage in my data centers. It is a nice product and works well. More than likely I will settle on fusion on my mac just because the Vm's are interchangable.

Parallels is pretty good to, but you can tell that it is not designed to be an "enterprise" product. It is less than 1/3 the cost of VMware workstation (no clue what Fusion will cost), and for the price it is amazing.
