I cannot seem to set up a shared folder. I have followed the instructions, but:

    1) The folder does not come up in OSX

    2) When I try to access it from within Window's, an error comes up and I can't get into it. What's wrong?

Um, yes they are. When a user install XP in parallels, it creates a folder so that OS X and XP can share files.

Though, I have no answer as to why M@low can't get it to work. If I was using parallels now, I could maybe help you, but I don't own it yet.

    **edit**
did you format the "drive" as NTFS or FAT? I'm pretty sure it has to be FAT in order for them to work.

Oh that may be the problem. It is fomatted as NTFS. The error that comes up is Network Path was not found.

It still doesn't work which is a read problem, but I have figured out a way to transfer files using the following method.

    1. Make sure Windows sharing is on in Mac' Sharing Control panel.
    2. Open My Network Places in Wondows XP, click on "Add a network place" in left menu; click next to enter wizard.
    3. "Choose another network location", click Next
    4. type: \\IPnumber\Macusername where IPnumber is your Mac IP number (which you can get from the "about this Mac" from the Apple menu ( where its is listed as " IPv4 Addresses:" under "Network"; and Macusername is your username on the Mac.
    5. Enter your Mac's login and password.
    6. Finish

I think this is good enough (have yet to test it) but I would still love to be able to use the standard Parallels shared folder. So if anything can fix my problem, that would be greatly appreciated.

Shared Folders works for me even though XP is installed in a NTFS "drive". AFAIK, the folder does not come up automagically in OS X at all; you simply set up an already existing folder that will be mapped to the shared folder of Parallels. No idea why it doesn't work for you though, perhaps it is some bug, Parallels is still evolving.

The folder ip4 address seems to change often. This is weird.
