I was cleaning my MBP today and I notice that at certain light angles, I can notic fading/discoloration in the finish where my palm normally rests. It's sort of the same effect as rubbing fine sandpaper over a painted surface.
I took pictures but it can't be noticed in pictures.
I think an investment in a palm gaurd would be worthwhile.
Just FYI.

The electroplating definitely isn't perfect... feels great to the touch but isn't as durable as it could ne.
-
Mine is having the same problem, but unless I look at it at a perfect angle, I don't see it.
-
god, hope mine doesn't become like this.

My palms get really sweaty so the salts in there may have caused some kind of erosion.
-
It's not going to look new forever. That's life.

-
oh, anyways, it's supposed to get used sooner or later.

The invisible shields are really nice, just for the general scratch protections so that the outer shell of your MBP looks like its new. Also helps keep its value when you want to sell it again
-
Yup, invisible shields are quite helpful in this case.
-
Actually, having used both Invisible Shield and BodyGuardz, I find that the BodyGuardz shield is of a lot better quality and presentation than the Invisible Shield. Also to preserve the palmrests, I recommend the Moshi Palmguard. Its about 20 bucks, but its perfect for preventing the scratching of the palmrest.

I like worn keys and palmrests... thats a badge of honor showing you've gotten good use out of the computer!

i've been using mine almost every day since i got it, gaming, surfing, watching movies, chatting, university works, windows all sorts of this you could imagine. It's still perfect, though i need to clean the keyboard a bit..
