I was cleaning my MBP today and I notice that at certain light angles, I can notic fading/discoloration in the finish where my palm normally rests. It's sort of the same effect as rubbing fine sandpaper over a painted surface.

I took pictures but it can't be noticed in pictures.

I think an investment in a palm gaurd would be worthwhile.

    Just FYI.

The electroplating definitely isn't perfect... feels great to the touch but isn't as durable as it could ne.

Mine is having the same problem, but unless I look at it at a perfect angle, I don't see it.

It's not electroplated that's something different. It's Anodized. This will happen to any material unless it is resistant to the acids in your sweat.

My palms get really sweaty so the salts in there may have caused some kind of erosion.

It's not going to look new forever. That's life.

The aluminum will eventually show wear. My friend has his unibody back since late 2008 and it began to show signs of normal usage by resting his palm on the aluminum. It starts to shine as a glossy rounded patch. It's quite nasty and ugly IMHO.

Yeah that's my general stance on electronics. I'm the type that doesn't buy any protective anything. I just use it as is and take good care of it.

The invisible shields are really nice, just for the general scratch protections so that the outer shell of your MBP looks like its new. Also helps keep its value when you want to sell it again :D

Actually, having used both Invisible Shield and BodyGuardz, I find that the BodyGuardz shield is of a lot better quality and presentation than the Invisible Shield. Also to preserve the palmrests, I recommend the Moshi Palmguard. Its about 20 bucks, but its perfect for preventing the scratching of the palmrest.
