Has anyone gone and gotten the Colorware treatment for their Mac's? It's expensive on their site, coming in at some $500+ to just send it in. Are there any other companies that can do customized paint jobs for laptops?

Haven't actually purchased but I do know of people that have. Their quality is excellent and I don't know if I'd trust any other companies.

HOWEVER, keep in mind that in 2 years, maybe even in 1 year, that computer will be no where near as good as a newer computer. So do you want to drop $600+ into a comp that is bound to be obsolete?

That is an excellent point. I do see myself changing out my MBP13 in two years time or so. If only Apple breaks their ways and gives a couple more color choices with the MBP's, that would be awesome (like the black MacBook from something like 3 or 4 years back).

Not to my tastes but as a (desktop) case modder this came out very well.

I'd love to use Colorware, but it's too expensive for the way I upgrade. I customized one on their site and the price was $900. I couldn't justify that even if I planned to keep the computer for 4 years. If it were a couple hundred, okay, but $900 is a little ridic.

I saw a Colorware'd MacBook Pro going on ebay recently for about $1050. It was a late 2008 unibody. I didn't like the color scheme, but it was interesting to see one up for sale.

You could always go the DIY method, take apart the computer entirely so that just the shell remains, then send it off to be anodized or painted at a professional paint shop... It might only run you $150-$300 or less if you 'know the guy'.
