This question was poised to me at a Chinese restaurant I recently ate at. The owners decided to use Macs in their new restaurant at the suggestion of some network salesperson after they were told there would be no problem with POS software for their sales and customers. However, they apparently didn't get all the information to the salesperson because what they really wanted was some POS software that would not only allow them to take the order and automatically produce a total, but also send the order back to the chefs who only speak Cantonese.
I was pretty convinced that Quickbooks for Mac would be fine until they came up with the translation problem. Now I wonder if they're going to have to have a custom program written for them or at least convince Intuit to produce a module for them.
    Any ideas?

You can run many Windows programs under OS X with Wine. You could try that. I'm not very experienced with POS software.

To be honest, when I read "POS software", I thought of something different.

yeah- might just want to start out with "point of sale" once before dropping the POS acronym all over the place.

You're right, of course. I should have mentioned the full phrase instead of the POS. A moment of tiredness and wanting to get a quick answer from some one who might be acquainted with the term.
The question still stands: is there a dedicated Point of Sale program that would allow an order to be translated into a different language (in this case English to Cantonese) for the Mac or will one have to be written specifically for it?
    Thank you.
