That statement is used to be true.
However, mac has been more affordable (but sitll overprice at some degree) and become more popular.

That statement is still true. Even you proved it wrong. LOL
Windows OS still holds the marjority of consumer OS used on PC (that includes MAC because mac is still a PC)

    Uh...so.......

It's true that the market share of Macs have risen substantially and Macs are much affordable than 5 years ago, Mac OS is still not the majority of the consumer operating system used on PC.

isn't this kind of a ridiculous poll.... seriously, how many people have NEVER and i mean... NEVER touched a mac before... if it was in elementary school, junior high, high school, university, a friends house, work, anything how many people have NEVER touched a mac...

therefore this is going to be a one sided poll...

i dont use a mac on a regular basis but my girlfriend has one and therefore i have used one at one point in my life and i have to vote yes...

how many people can honestly say they have not ever used a mac lol

95% of our school population has never touched a Mac before. I know a lot of other people who haven't touched a Mac either.

Many people are forced to buy Mac in university. That's probably the mjaor reason why a lot of university students buy Macs. If they're not forced to buy Mac, they'll buy a PC. Not everyone can afford or want to spend a lot of money on Macs.

ok. i dunno if you're actually serious or just reaching, but i've never heard of a course REQUIRING a mac... and if it does, i bet those kids actually elected to take that course and knew beforehand. likewise, peer pressure and wanting to be cool aren't real "forcible" reason unless you are of weak moral fiber...

sorry, the only believable reason anyone is ever forced into buying a mac involves the gun situation.

Mac OS X is great and so is windows. Theres going to be a lot of people that havent used a mac before, not only including the Omish...

I love my mac os x for doing work/multitasking and I love windows for gaming.

And if you have never touched a mac and ur from america, then u never went to school because they have had macs in every school I have ever been to.

And I understand the whole "cool to have mac" thing. lol I got one and then I noticed all my friends got one. Maybe because they like it, or maybe because I put a pistol to their heads...who knows :p

There are tonnes of courses in university which require Macs. E.g. audio technician, film production...etc

I bet this world there's at least 25% of people are of weak moral fiber. Peer pressure is probably one of the reason why there are so many apple mp3 players in the school. The 1st person who gets a new ipod will brag about it and those "people who are of weak moral fiber" after seeing the "coolness" will buy IPOD just to be cool, not because they need it. They already have drawer full of mp3 players being unused.

Anyways.. there are 3 main types of Mac Users:
    1) Just to be cool, bragging rights...etc type of user
    2) I need a mac because it just work and I've seen the awesome advertisment on TV
    3) I need a mac because my course requires Mac and my job, my work requires it as well.

AND, what's wrong with any of these types?

If Apple sells their products in this fashion then that's awesome. I think most companies even Coke and Pepsi would love their customers to buy just because it's "cool" to drink their cola. A sale is a sale. ;)

where the hell are you getting your information from... i really have to ask

its highly doubtful that you are a university student who needs a mac, i have taken courses that required audio as well as film software, and both mac as well as pc's have programs that are available that can both perform the required tasks.

Having "weak moral fiber" has nothing to do with mp3 players... have you ever considered that even though there are A-LOT of people with mp3 players, they dont all have the same thing... if your theory was true, the minute individual A bragged about his new ipod touch, Individual B would have to buy a new ipod touch, NOT the nano / shuffle / sony product etc etc etc that individual B most likely has.

if those 3 points are the only logical reasons to own a mac that you can see, why wouldn't you take into consideration in your argument the idea that owning a (insert unheard of PC computer here) that no one else owns as a bragging right, or to be cool?.. isnt the entire point of bragging rights the idea that only you have said item, and not 14 other people within view using the same item?

if advertisements play that big of a role in your decision making, or in anyone's decision making that they HAVE to have what they see... that person is in for a VERY VERY long difficult life of being broke all the time because they are buying everything they see...

i dont mean to sound rude or anything, but this is way WAY off topic to the poll now, and its a horrible poll in the first place

Wow, that's pretty narrow minded. FYI, when I saw the late 2008 Macbook Pro reviewed it was, by far, the most sleek laptop I'd ever seen. Having NEVER used a Mac before and being in the update cycle for a new laptop I figured "what the heck, time to try a Mac"...I had used Windows machines since the release of 3.1 and yes, before that I used DOS and played with autoexec.bat and config.sys files to get my games to run. So to answer your "theory"...

    1) No need to be cool...at 51 am quite comfortable with who I am...
    2) I'm a "Mac" commercials put current Windows commercials to shame but had no bearing on my decision to try Mac for first time after 23 years of using home computers...
    3) My work uses Windows and the next degree I start working on soon actually sent me Windows disks only...so looks like your #3 is a major fail...

When you get a few more years of computer use/life experience under your belt, maybe I'll let you tell the world why "I" use a Mac...

My first real experience with a Mac, other than 10 minutes at the local computer retailer, would have been about 2 years ago, at the Photography Lab in my high school. Those were iMac G5s. I already wanted a Mac then and had read Apple's Switch 101, so surprisingly I knew my way around it despite not really having touched a Mac before then!

Some of the more senior members have probably heard me tell this story before: how I got my Mac! I didn't buy this, I didn't get this from my parents, I actually won it in a (skill, not luck) contest! It was a website design contest open to high school students across British Columbia, Canada, and I entered...and won for my grade division. The prize was a Macbook :D.

There are many types of PC users as well:
    1) People who can't afford to buy a Mac, but needs a computer
    2) People who needs windows for work or school
    3) People who like to build custom computers and mod their OS
    4) people who like to "brag" about their "killer gaming machine".

That's great! :D I've seen many things come out of Graphx, and they are stunning! ;) Good job over there, and it was a sad day when it had to cut back... :(

I got my first Mac for Christmas 2008, but I had done a ton of research in the months before that, just to make sure I knew OS X and all of it's ins and outs. It really paid off, and I don't know where I'd be today if I didn't take the time to dig deep and get to know where and what everything was. It really paid off and I'd recommend doing that if you're an up and coming Mac user. ;)

I seriously have to question how old you are because this nonsense you wrote would come from someone of age 12, if not younger. Newsflash for you, in the geek world people MAY take the time to build a custom computer but it's hardly the majority. Who would brag about their "killer gaming machine" unless they were a kid living at home with no responsibilities.

My first computer was a Windows 95 HP desktop and within the next 2 years it was followed by another HP then a Compaq until I ended my relationship with Windows 98. I did not buy either one of them because I couldn't afford a Macintosh. I was uneducated about Macs at that time and other people I knew had Windows machines so that's why I bought them.

Today, neither am I financially rich or have a lot of money but I KNOW what I want and need so I put my money to Macs and I've done so since I got rid of my last Compaq PC.

Hmm.. "people who can't afford to buy a Mac, but needs a computer" This group of people which I'm talking about seems to fit your description of your past windows experience from your post, "I did not buy either one of them because I couldn't afford a Macintosh."

Also, i'm simply listing out the common types of PC users which I can think of on top of my mind. My statement doesn't mean there's only exactly 4 types of PC user as there can be many other types that I havent' mentioned. These points isn't nonsense and a lot of people actually fit in one or more of these categories.

No no, you misundertood my post because I miswrote it. I bought three PC desktops, 2 HP's and 1 Compaq. I meant that I my decision to buy any them had nothing to do with not affording to buy a Mac. I bought them on word of mouth that PC was the way to go. After suffering through all 3 of them I bought my first PowerMac G3 and never looked back. I don't fit your description at all.

you sir, have entered the realm of retardation...

your statement that the poster fits into your category of "people who can't afford to buy a mac, but needs a computer" is completely wrong, you need to learn to read and comprehend what other people are saying, when you quoted him saying "i did not buy either one of them because i couldn't afford a Macintosh" you decided to miss the next line which stated that "I was uneducated about Macs at that time and other people I knew had Windows machines so that's why I bought them. "

i will agree that you seem to be at the same level of comprehension as a 12 year old due to the fact that you cant even join two lines of text together to create one complete thought.

i honestly think this is a stupid thread created by a child to instigate senseless conversation that can spun out of control and is not even close to being on topic anymore.

My friend who serves in the NAVY SEALS builds his own PC. Tell that to him that he does not have responsibilities!

Building a custom computer is not rocket science. It is more like legos or the furniture you assemble from IKEA more than anything else.
