For those of you not aware, the newest nvidia drivers 169.01 allow you to overclock the 8600gt.
I have mine set to 577/677. Going to 600/700 causes hl2 stress test to crash and my screen to go black. Wondering if anybody has been able to push it higher?
-
are you reffering to clock/mem or clock/shader... your mem should be 700 by default (its gddr3)... if your reffering to clock/shader those are very good results.
-
default for mbp clock/mem is 470/635 so i upped it to 577/677
using rivatuner -
hmm I guess they underclock it... my guess is your core is maxed at 575ish but you may get more out of the shaders. I bet you could get the memory to around 750 probably even further.
-
If you have the time, please post some benchmarks in the MBP Overclocking Benchmarks Thread so that we can compare your results.
-
Where do you get these drivers and how do you install them? I see they are at laptopvideo2go, but I have Vista 32, they don't seem to have those drivers.

EDIT: Yes, they do have Vista 32-bit drivers. Go to the Forum and Click the Release 160 Drivers and read the Titles. Here is a direct link for v169.01 VISTA 32bit. -
what is the purpose of overclocking? -

What program are you using to overclock?
-
You can use Riva Tuner to overclock.
I dont know if nvidia still has the built in overclocking as they used to have with pre-8000 range. All you needed to do that with just a registry edit. It's called coolbits, might want to see if it still works. -
nvidia has ntune but i used rivatuner
-
i tried playing around with the shader slider but it brought nothing but trouble. Made things slower actually. I found out the shader slider has to be enabled for xp but then I didn't really know where rivatuner sets the shader clock when the shader slider is hidden. So i'll stick with my 581/699.

I installed 169.02, but neither Rivatuner 2.02 or 2.05 will overclock - when I change the sliders and hit test, nothing happens. This used to happen on previous driver versions too, so I reverted to Bootcamp 1.4 drivers which worked fine with Rivatuner overclocking. Any tips?
Cheers, B. -
My results in XP:

Mem: 860 MHz -

Whoa! Who mentioned 169. 02? The thread title clearly says 169. 01. That was completely off-topic.
ForceWare 169.04 was released today.
Have you guys tried overclocking those drivers yet on your Apple hardware? -
And 169.04 is somehow on topic?
I have the same problem in 169.01 as I did in 169.02: the test button in Rivatuner does nothing. Additionally, I had to tweak the INF file to disable powermiser, as otherwise I couldn't adjust the 3D sliders.
However, if I set the sliders without testing and click apply, the clocks do seem to be adjusted, so all's well. -
I have tried everything and i couldnt get 169.01 to overclock. I move the sliders, click apply (in rivatuner) and all looks well but you click ok and the sliders move back to the default as the window closes. I have the 169.01 driver from laptop video2go and i just reinstalled vista... any thoughts?
