I'm running a 1.86Ghz processor, upgrading soon... but until then have been suffering low performance for my audio apps.

Can (and more importantly, SHOULD) the CPU be overclocked?? I know these baby's run hot as it is!

    Thanks in advance guys.

CPU overclocking is dangerous and I wouldn't recommend it on a laptop like yours. The MB doesn't having idea cooling for OC'ing.

i wouldn't say it's dangerous unless you don't make alot of money to replace the processor/laptop and have mouths to feed. but yeah like dmac, it doesn't have ideal cooling, so if you chance it, i would definitely invest in a great laptop cooler like the zalman nc1000/2000 should you decide to do so.

Honestly, you would have to nuts to OC a notebook processor. The performance gain is small, and you are risking your notebook. I would say live with the speed for now since you will be upgrading soon. OC'ing gives great benchmarks, but never really seems to help real world performance.

Wow, much better than any experience I have ever had. I have OC'd both my MBP and an older ATi 9800 (many moon ago!) and never got more than a few frames a second at best. Perhaps I was doing something wrong.

Myself, I would never be comfortable OC'ing a notebook. The cooling just is not there and I think it can be dangerous for a small increase in performance. I would rather turn down the visuals than OC. After all, I am trying to play a game not go sightseeing. Although I know alot of people like the graphics!
