Thank you to everyone here who helped me with my decision. I now apologize in advance for the onslaught of question after question of the stupid nature of how the thing works and isn't like windows.

I'm pretty tech savy so I think I will catch on fairly quickly

congratulations, i own exactly the same product and i am a first time apple buyer too, since last tuesday, when i received it :)!!

Here are 3 tricks for you:

    backslash "\" is alt+shift+7
delete to the right is fn+delete
wanna use the function keys F1-F10, for example, for focussing the adressbar in firefox press fn+f6

These were the most wanted answers i wanted to know :D

sure..that makes sense!! Only to a Mac user...us PC folks would just hit the actual baskslash key...hehehehe... :p I actually never have cared what platform I am working on...but I just could not pass that shot by... :D

Just teasing...congrats to the OP for getting a nice shiny new thing!!

Someone showed me the hotkeys for the apple logo but I forgot. I think it was on facebook or something.

option-shift-k yields the apple symbol. Too bad you can only see it on a mac.

Yeah, hotkeys are your friends on a mac. I should just note that, for Firefox, you can also focus the address bar with cmd+L (I find it a bit easier than Fn+6) and, similarly, you can focus the search bar with cmd+K.

One thing that I wish I had known right away is that the funny symbol that looks like a sideways y needed for some shortcuts corresponds to the "alt/option" key on your keyboard.

Oh, and finally, get quicksilver--it totally owns. I basically only use my touchpad for navigating web pages and scrolling now... :)

Congrats on the new machine--I think you'll love it. I've had my first Mac for about 6 weeks now, and I'm already far, far more efficient using it than I ever was on the many windows machines that I've used.

System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts.

Congrats! This is my first apple product too.
