Arguably one thing in favor of the macbook pro is its support.

The current MBP case design has various 'features" available from other companies.

InvisibleSHIELD protection, speck cases, keyboard protectors, etc.

A new case redesign will not have the support the current MBP has for some time.

Considering the current rising popularity of Macs (and the very few model types offered by Apple), I think these third party companies will be quick to rework their accessories for a case redesign. I also think that Apple leaks some details to some of these providers (such as case dimensions) before the product is revealed to allow them to begin working on their accessories so they can be ready come launch.

Well, Apple's quite..."mean" to its third party developers :p. The Made for iPod manufacturers are constantly changing to accommodate Apple's changes. So I don't think it'll be that big of a deal. At first, yes, but over a few months, it'll be set again!

I doubt it. I was reading an article the other day saying that despite increased pressure from employees to their IT departments requesting Apples to be used, they've consistently been rejected because Apple is so tightlipped about their upgrading of hardware or software making it nearly impossible for the companies to plan upgrades.

Heck, Apple employees are kept in the dark as to prevent the leaking of any secrets.

IT departments hate surprises. Incremental changes were we don't have to field support calls from every single employee is good. Incremental changes where we only have to test it on a small deployment platform is best.

I was referring more to consumers rather than corporations - and even though Apple is very tight-lipped with upgrades, I have heard that they do supply bits of pertinent info to some suppliers to help them plan accessories. May or may not be true I suppose, though I remember hearing about wooden versions of the iPhone being made or sent around for this purpose (before it was actually revealed).

New cases is a great way for the accessory supliers to earn more on the users which upgrade their machines :)
