Question in title.... I kind of like it and am unsure if it's free, or I'll have to end up buying .mac to keep it. :)

I think the answer is "no" ; I let my dot mac subscription expire and after a couple of weeks or so - - - the email address was no longer functioning.

Ah lame... I really like this mail app, and iDisk... guess it'll be worth it. Anything to get away from the spamfest known as hotmail :D

gmail is pretty good against spam, hardly ever get any. I have an old hotmail account and I've never received much spam there either, so I don't know, maybe it's cause I only gave that address to really close friends for chatting on live messenger.

I totally think .mac is worth it. Having said that, I think there is an email-only .mac membership I came across once. It's a lot cheaper if all you want is the email address/webmail access.

Edit: oops.... you have to have the full membership for additional email-only accounts.

I recommend gmail as a free alternative, awesome spam filter, better than hotmail and yahoo. I have had experience with all of them.

It is but it's commonly found for $69. You're not in Canada by any chance, are you?

You don't need to use .mac with mail. Gmail, yahoo, all of them work to
