Well I have had my MBP back for less than a week and it decided to take a dump lat night. The screen is just abunch of different pixels. There is no picture! I hooked it up to an external, same exact thing. So it is not the LCD. Once in a while it works, but for the most part now it does not. So it is going back to Apple again. This is my 4th MBP and it has already had the Logic Board replaced once.

**EDIT** Anyone see anything like this before. I suspect 1 of 3 things. Bad Logic Board, loose connection with the video card or the video card itself is bad.

Just got off the phone with Apple it is going in! YAY! Just when I needed it for my web classes at school too! Can ya tell I am a little frustrated, lol! Oh well life goes on. They said that if it comes back bad again they can replace it for me. Of course that does not help now, but it is nice to know. For what its worth Apple is very easy to deal with, I can't even get mad at the guy. I just wish sometimes that their hardware was a little more reliable. Oh btw, it is probably a bad connection with the video card from the last repair.

Sorry to hear about your troubles cashmonee, hopefully they'll get it taken care of once and for all with this last time.

I think you're right too, definitely sounds like a bad connection.

You should ask to get a new one now. I think letting them repair it three times is generous. Make them give you a new one, like you said it is a major pain in the ass, especially with your classes coming up.

Well I never told you guys what happened. I sent the computer in on a Tuesday and received on Friday, very quick. Unfortunately it came back with another problem. This one was not so easy. At that point I could no longer afford to be without the computer for another week so I requested a replacement thinking they would send it to me and I would send it back. After getting to a Tier 2 tech who refused to do anything except a repair and told me there was no supervisor to talk to, I was informed by an Apple Store that I called I would have better luck with Customer Relations. I had to call the coporate office and was quickly connected to a rep who was very helpful. She asked for a copy of the receipts from my previous machines and had me sign a form. That was last Wednesday. I received my new on Monday. In the end I am satisfied. I do wish that Apple could fix a problem without having to cause a new one, but at least I have a working one. Hopefully it stays working.

Cashmonee that was a bit confusing.

So they sent you a new one, and when it arrived you had to send the old one back?

Ya sorry, I wrote that when I was at the end of the coffee pot, so I was a little jittery! Anyway, yes. They sent me a brand new one via FedEx and emailed me labels to send back my old one. I have 30 days, if it is not sent within 30 days they will charge my credit card for the full $1999. I plan on sending it today or tomorrow.

So if I opted to buy a refurbished MBP, something I have considered I could possibly end up with your old one. I think I’ll pass on any refurbished MBP, I don’t want to inherit the suffering of the previous owner.

Apple needs to get their act together. You guys read about the problems ZDnet editors had with theirs?

Refurbished MBP's carry the same warranty, etc. Most of the people I know who have bought refurbished models actually have had less problems. Refurbished models aren't all necessarily "used" anyway - they aren't putting defective machines back into circulation, in particular.

I was actually talking to someone about this, and they pointed out that a lot of the "refurbs" are actually things like when there was some damaging to the packaging, or some item missing in the packaging...... the actual laptops were still new, but they had to put the missing item in the packaging and label it as "refurbished", essentially. So it's likely you would end up with something like that as well.

These problems were all pretty well known (the battery swelling, the whine, etc.). Note that the date ranges for the laptops they discussed there were from February to May. Apple has been using newer logic boards since then, and also issued recalls for the early problems with the battery swelling, etc.

Definitely some early kinks, but Apple has taken care of most all of that.

Also, as a general point - remember that ZDnet is notorious for this kind of "journalism" - note that this story was just published today, even though the actual subject matter of it is months old, and the story barely even mentions that most of the problems they encountered have been taken care of.

This is something ZDnet does across the board (not just with Apple stories). Just something to keep in mind with them.

    Cashmonee,

First off, glad to know that you got a new laptop; I would have been down Apple's throat after the second time, but you seem to have more tolerance than I do.

As for sending back the "faulty" Apple, please make sure you pack and send back the correct one; I would hate to read here – sometime soon – something along the lines of "AARR, I just sent back the wrong laptop!".

Best of luck with your new one, and please let us know how this one fares for you. I was seriously worried about Apple from reading your post with three failures to resolve your problem, as I thought that each time you had one of the issues it was with a new laptop and not the same one.

LOL! That would suck! I would hate myself. But worry not, I have the old one set aside and not in my normal woking area. Or do I? They look so much alike!
