    hey guys,

    yet another problem i have! im sure you can point me in a direction, i use my MPB for school and since its the holidays havent really touched the school folder until today when i went to find my assignment to do some work. i opened the folder to find half the files it should contain missing. I HAVE NOT DELETED THESE (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) AND THEY ARE NOT INSIDE THE TRASH.

    i have done a system search to find nothing????

    if anyone could tell me either whats happened or where they may be or how to get them back it would be much appreciated, most of the 20 000 words written cant be replaced :(

    oh and like an idiot i dont use time machine......yet

    thanks in advance (BTW please give me decent info not stupid comments like check your trash........anyone who gives me a decent bit of info will get a recommendation point thingo)

    no nobody has access to my laptop as it is for my personal use only and when left is left locked. i did delete all of the internet history recently there was pages and pages of it about 250 items but that was all just cookies (right jargon?) it was in the finder style box and came up with a preview of the page they were all just little safari thingo's so i presumed they were all those things im talking about.

    dont mean to get to technical lol 'those thing'os ' (shakes head at himself and mutters nice liam nice)

    so any other ideas?

    also im buying a external harddrive to use time machine with, time machine works with any mac compatible external harddrive right?

    Where exactly is this school folder of yours stored?
    And yes, time machine works with any external HD.

    school folder is on the desktop (saved on internal HD) and all documents are word, (im running 2004 office program) and thankyou for giving me the info on the HD drive

    I think we can only assume that those files got deleted. Due to the UNIX nature of OS X, the chances of recovering deleted files is very slim. You could try 3rd party applications such as Trash Magic ( http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20975/trashmagic), but the chances are slim.

    Hmmm...I really can't think of a way how it would disappear. I hate to say it, but most likely they're gone gone.

    damn looks like ill be doing another couple of days work then and even at that scanning in others books ohwell ORDERED A EXTERNAL HD THIS TAUGHT ME YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO SAFE
