Well for word I use iWorks, for excel? Well I would say NeoOffice, its Open Office for the Mac. It has all the same features but there is def. a learning curve, but worth a look.

Are you aware that Microsoft Office 2004 is the Mac Version?
On the other hand NeoOffice (2.0 Aqua Beta to be released soon) and Open Office (you need X11) are good and free (NeoOffice beta will be free by the end of August-before you must pay a small membership fee)

I use iWorks, and I'll definitely be upgrading to iWorks'07 for the rumored new Charts program in it (excels counterpart). Mac OS X has iSync which does all the PDA stuff for you, it uses iCal, Address book and the whatnot as programs you use to view and enter your information and OS X uses that info as info to send and vice versa.
