Just out of interest: since updating to Office for Mac 2008: it now takes 32 seconds to open up Word and another 13 seconds for the beachball to stop spinning.

Basically, it takes 45 seconds to access a file.
That is an excruciating lenght of time.
I am using an iMac with 1gig mem and the old PowerPC chip (not Intel) but still....

I was going to say on my MBP it opens extremely quick. Certainly not the length of time you describe. I used to have a PPC Mac, not iMac but tower and it had trouble even loading Office 2004.

The new Office:Mac has been optimised for Intel CPUs and not PowerPC. As a result, users on Intel Macs will experience a performance boost over Office 2004, while users on PowerPC Macs will experience a performance slump.

Yeah, its the PowerPC issue, not really Office 2008. Office 2008 is much faster for me, when I tried it out.

I have Office 2008...it takes a few seconds, but it gets moving.
