Nope, 2007 is not over yet and there hasn't been any official info released since they began beta testing in March.

Getting a MBP tomorrow, is it a waste to buy office 2004, need it for school by Sept.

Just use NeoOffice until Office 2008 comes out.

Yes, it is a waste to get Office 2004 now and upgrade to 2008 in a few months. I'd say get your MacBook Pro, leave the 30-day trial alone, that way it won't activate yet. Until then, use NeoOffice (which is free, the Mac version of OpenOffice) or Google Docs & Spreadsheets. And when September comes around, Spotlight that Office 2004 trial and activate the 30-day trial. Right now no one's sure when Office 2008 is coming out, all Microsoft has said is second half of 2007.

Another option you might toy with if you plan to use Windows fairly often (say at least 50% of the time) is to simply get Office 2007 for Windows. Office 2007, depending on the edition you get, will have more programs (Access, OneNote, etc.) than 2008, and more features (VBA support). Now, you can run Office natively in Windows when you're using Boot Camp, and through Parallels while you're in OSX.

Thanks, I think I will use Neo, I'm actually hoping I will never want or need to use Parallels or bootcamp.
I was not aware that the MBP came with a trial version, when you purchase I assume it has the option for teacher/student addition????

Q3/Q4 of 2007 probably. Your school might offer Office 2004 for free.

iWork has Pages and Keynote; basically weaker versions of MS Word and Powerpoint.

Just a heads up ... even if you install NeoOffice, the MacBook Pro will default to the Trial Office version for opening word, excel, and pp documents ... so if you don't want to activate your trial copy, you'll want to make sure you open NeoOffice first to open the document ... assume you can reset preferences, but haven't tried that.

Good for you. The more people with your attitude to use the Mac to it's fullest without relying on Bootcamp and Windows the more developers will make more software. The whole idea is about choice, not reliance.

Last I heard, they were saying August, but that is unlikely now. I would do as others suggested, and look for alternatives until it is released. And I am not sure you can actually purchase the full version through the trial. I believe you have to go buy it, then you can enter a code.

You know though, there's definitely something to be said for an office application where the various menus and whatnot take up 50% of the actual window and cover up the work product:

AT least the work window is now in the middle. Thank you! I always hate that MS Word puts the work window in the left side of the screen.

actually im pretty sure the office 04 test drive that comes with your mac won't let you print or save no the trial version. just find a friend with the software or use neo office until 08...
