I have a 2.33 Ghz MBP with 256 MB ATI. I purchased the 2.4 Ghz yesterday. I ran Oblivion on my 2.33 Ghz MBP running my character across that long bridge next to Chestnut Handy Stables at Imperial City. Framerates were fairly steady about 21 to 22 FPS at 1280x768. That's why I chose that straight and long bridge.

I copied the same character over to my 2.4 Ghz MBP and ran her across the same bridge at 1280x768 and got 52 to 56 FPS; that's more than TWICE the frame rate on my 2.33 Ghz MBP with ATI 256 MB GPU. Granted, more tests are needed but I am WOWed by the nVidia 256 MB on my 2.4 Ghz MBP right now.

    Will post more results soon.

Screenie would look pretty much the same on the old MBP since I used the same character on the same bridge the same time of day. If you're interested in quality of the old MBP here are some of my choice screenies.

    Screenies are probably at 1280x768.
Gameplay however is only adequate on the 2.33 Ghz though. These screenies are with all of my mods turned on. The first I posted had pretty much no mods turned on with both machines.

Not a surprise, the 8600M GT is a much more capable GPU.

At this moment I am copying the whole Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/Data file from my old 2.33 Ghz Mackbook Pro over to the new 2.4 Ghz MBP as well as the My games/Oblivion file. This will in my mind at least put both systems on a more similar playing field, although I doubt it will make any big difference. Next, I will run more frame rate tests.

That is very interesting. Given that the MR X1600 was released more than a year and a half ago, and was already slower than the Go 7700, I'm not surprised that the 8600GT is able to pull ahead quite decisively. What drivers were you using? I know that the latest are Cat 7.5 from ATI, while Boot Camp 1.3 includes a modified version of Cat 7.3. Not sure about nVidia though, since the Go 8600 is so new there may not be very many drivers out for it yet so the Boot Camp ones may be the newest.

It'd be interesting to see a comparison indoors and outdoors too since the results could vary more.

I am using the stock Boot Camp drivers. With all the buggy stuff I copied over from the 2.33 Ghz framerates running across the bridge on the new 2.4 Ghz have slowed a bit, I'd say only about 3 or 4 frames though. Looks like it's running 48 to 54 FPS on the bridge now. At least now I can wade thru the tall grass without slowing to less than 14 FPS like on the 2.33 Ghz! I'm happy I made this purchase, no doubt in my mind.
