Hey guys, I just found out about this program called Shapeshifter.

It allows a skinning of the shell. Our good friends at Unsanity.com provide this neat piece of software for $20 (free 14 day trial). It's insanely simple and much nicer and less intrusive on the OS than the XP shell mod programs. I installed the program, downloaded a mod called AmunRaa. And wow! Is it beuatiful.

Only thing you have to do is reboot and voila, everything is using the skin. There were only a few programs here and there that didn't let the override take effect (Quicktime). It's sweet though. Even comes with replacement icons and changes in the transparancies of the menu items. Totally killer stuff.

So far I've noticed no slow downs or adverse effects, but I've only had it on here for a few hours.

Also of note is the WindowShade X program. It is also from Unsanity.com and probably for $20 as well. They really need to add a package purchase option.

Anyway, this lets you use a hotkey to shrink the window. Instead of it minimizing to the taskbar, it stays on the screen as a little preview of the window. It is live and will show updates, so it's not a static image of the program. When you hover over it, it magnifies in size. Click on it, and it returns to full size. You can even set it to float on top of all windows.

WindowShade X also allows you to minimize a program in a different way. You can set the program to roll up and just have the application bar show (where you have the close, maximize, minimize and title bar). Pretty slick if I don't mind saying so myself.

I'll also add these to the OS X app sticky if they're not on there already.

I will try to upload a screen capture of it tomorrow.

I've used Shapeshifter for a while and it's very very good.

I also used Windowshade X because it seems to have "broken". My copy (and a lot of other people's) doesn't do any of the special Windowshade effects anymore. Instead it just minimises to the dock no matter what. =S

    But I do reccomend Shapeshifter.

Does Shapeshifter do anything other than modify themes? Because I like the OS X theme and do not want to change it.

Well, you can choose what you want changed. But it's there for changing the shell.
