Seagate just join in on the laptop Hybrid HDD market. they are recently supplying it to OEM. they are called Momentus® 5400 PSD. now, apple uses mainly Seagate HDD.

Now, from what i've know, hybrid harddrive are for windows vista only. is it possible that apple actually using this harddrive on their laptop? does the Hybrid HDD actually compatible on OS X?

coz i actually trying to avoid getting hybrid harddrive.

As far as I know Apple isn't using hybrid hard drives at this point in time.

    No. OSX doesn't support it.

I don't think OS X supports it right now. But Hybrid Hard drives aren't only for Windows. For instance, OS X could place the /boot partition along with the init signal and the kernel on the flash space for faster boot times.

I don't see any real need for it yet. OSX cold boots in 10-15 seconds as it is (actually I wonder if you ever not cold boot in OSX), and current Hybrid HDDs suck - you're stuck with 5400rpm drives if you want to go that route.

I'm sure Apple will get around to supporting it eventually.

Do hybrid hard drives even give that big of a leap in performance in Vista? I recall reading somewhere that the boost in performance was little to negligible for all intents and purposes.

thats why i'm trying to avoid a hybrid HDD the most important facts for doing this is because the Flash Memmory in the Hybrid HDD is not really proven technology (limited write cycle).

so there is no chance apple is implementing this in its notebook lineup anytime this year right? i'm planning to get a MBP soon.
