Ok, so there's a lot of people talking about equivalent programs for OS X(coming from Windows). There's already a great list of freeware, but there's a lot of pay for software not covered there. Feel free to contribute anything you know of, and I'll try to keep the top post updated.

how about some News readers? I use NewsBin on my windows platform.
I found iGrabNews but it's been crashing on me. -
I've heard good things about Coda
-
I've always liked GraphicConverter for light image work.
I also occasionally use MPlayer for video on the rare occasion that VLC does not work.
I also use X-Chat Aqua for IRC.
For eBay auction sniping, I use Auction Hunter. -
Software Development
Eclipse
Netbeans
Nothing else needed. Grab the appropriate DT's for your language, and you can do anything...
Of course, VIM is included in the command line...
Text tools
TextMate
Not free... but best single file text editor (when you're not using projects in Eclipse). It's pretty slick.
Financial
IBank
After trying about 12 financial software packages... this is the best. Haven't tried the new 3.0 version. Still not as good as some of the windows counterparts.
BTW... Avoid GoogleDesktop like the PLAGUE!!!! It will bury itself so far into your system, you cannot remove it using appzapper nor any other tool. You had better be great at unix to get rid of this bastard. -

For system tools, I use C_cktail (with an o that is censured), Techtool, Hardware Monitor, XSlimmer, and VirusBarrier. A Microsoft Project alternative is OmniPlan. I'm not sure if Office for Mac is not categorized as an "equivalent" but it is available and Word 2008's Notebook Layout view is a partial substitute for Microsoft OneNote, and the Publishing Layout view is a partial substitute for Microsoft Publisher. Ashlar-Vellum's CAD and modeling programs are cross-platform. And for mathematics software MMM (Maple, Mathematica, and Matlab) are all cross-platform, with Mathematica even supporting 64-bit in both Tiger and Leopard. And zipping and unraring, I still use Stuffit.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've updated the list and implemented a new format/strategy.
Keep in mind that these should be things that people tend to worry about when making the switch, and it doesn't necessarily have to be freeware. Also, if you could provide a comparable Windows product when offering a product up, that'd be great. -
Nothing bad to say about it, really good program. -
EDIT: Fixed now.
System_159, you might want to fix the link to Coda...seems to redirect to a broken link. -
I also suggest adding aMSN to the chats as it's the only MSN Messenger-like chat program that supports audio/video chat.
Also, I haven't used Toast but I did get Popcorn 3 and cannot recommend it highly enough. It's been running great. Seems to be the mac equivalent to Nero Burning Rom for windows which is an awesome program. -
This should get a Sticky

mattireland It used to be the iLand..
Please could I contribute Blender to design and Dreamweaver CS3 to web development?
There's also a nice Apache server I use: MAMP (or WAMP I can't remember lol) but that might be a good additions?
Also Cyber Duck as an FTP program and Quark XPress under something and what about uTorrent?
Thanks!
Matt. I
EDIT: Thanks for posting Coda! -
I noticed Gimp mentioned in this thread but not actually linked. I found the Gimp functioned as a PaintShopPro replacement for me nicely and may allow me to postpone upgrading my old Windows Photoshop CS2 license to Mac indefinitely. I found taco html to be quite useful but it couldn't stave off my eventual upgrade to dreamweaver cs3.

MS OneNote alternative / NoteTaking - Journler

If you're a blogger, I can't recommend ecto highly enough; it's one of the reasons why I switched!
If you want to monitor your library, I'd suggest Delicious Library. -
What about Camino other then FF?

Updated a couple of things on the top post. New suggestions are always welcome
