All right, so I am freaking out. About a week or two ago I just got my brand new black MacBook and love it. However, now I have a problem. The other day I put some hand cream on (St. Ives) and rubbed it real good. But as with all hand cream you still have just a little bit of it still on and your hands are greasy. Well I stupidly picked up my MacBook. Now there are like these ugly stains/smears on my the lid of MacBook and nothing will get them out. I've tried using water and a damp cloth and then a spray of half rubbing alcohol and half water. I really am starting to freak out, thinking I've stained my brand new MacBook. Any help or suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. =[

i think your best bet is to go into or call into the Apple store, I have seen a lot of people with Macbooks in my studio, that have turned completely yellow, the palm rests, and they had to send them in for service, and they got they got them back completely cleaned and looking new.

Wait... you used rubbing alcohol? I remember I used rubbing alcohol once to try and remove a grease stain on my dell, and I ended up rubbing off the paint.... I would also suggest taking it to the apple store, I'm sure they will take care of you, especially if you have apple care.

Ok maybe I will do that since I do have Apple Care or maybe I could just call them.

I think your mistake was using pure 70-80% isopropanol or ethanol. Ask an Apple store if watered down alcohol with work.

It is a fat stain. Detergent is better at removing fat then alcohol and it wont demage anything I would think. Damp cloth, a drop of dish washing detergent and then clean it with a damp cloth with only water to take away the detergent.
