This is really getting on my nerves. My MB just keeps on crashing after I left it idle. I though it was because of Bootcamp but clearly it wasn't. I just did a clean install of OSX last night hoping the problem will go away but it just crashed again. I was listening to music with it. It went into screen saver and then monitor shuts down. Everything was fine until I move my mouse and try to resume working on the Mac. That's when it crashed. Everytime I check the log it would say something about something not going through in CPU 2. Ideas?

Did you do an Archive and Install or did you format and do a clean install? If you did an Archive and Install, then your settings, programs, etc are still there and could still be causing problems. Try using a separate account. Also try repairing permissions. If neither works and you have done or will do a clean install, then it's hardware and you will need AppleCare to have a look.

yes i tried that. I tried the SMC firmware update from apple and it didn't work. It says this computer does not need update

I checked my firmware version and it's 1.17f0, the one they have on apple's site is 1.4f12 but it says it won't install on macs after late 2006. I got my mac about a month ago.

If you have done that stuff, then it is time to go to an Apple Store or call AppleCare. It could be bad RAM also btw. It could be a lot of things.

it is, but stable is a relative term with something as complicated as a computer.

I've noticed it too as well, could be the PowerPC emulation problem... On MAcs if you load them up over the RAM into Virtual Paging they tend to become unstabe and the app crashes, but not the OS

well, I think that you can press the option button on the keyboard when you reboot, in that way you can fix the problem.
I let the ITS guy do the job for me once my mac crashed(actually just once, I install some input toy)

    Hey xelaeel and all:

Did you find a resolution to this problem? My diagnosis is identical. I even have one of the new Core 2 MacBooks and the same deal with my SMC version and status - won't update, etc. Tried the same clean install, repaired permissions, even had DiskWarrior 4 replace the directory... This is pretty uncharacteristic of the Mac reliability I've been so accustomed to.. :( Please let me know your take.

    Regards
