    Hey guys,
Has anyone installed the Nvidia 163.44 drivers on their MBP? What sort of increase or decrease did you get and what sort of problems did you run into? Any thoughts on these drivers would be appreciated. And yes, since I have a MBP and want to install these drivers ON A MBP, this topic relates to the apple forum.

from what i have used they are the best so far, i went from original 1.4 bootcamp drivers to the 165.01 drivers or something like that then to 163.44 and they render the best performance, for me anyway. 163.44 get me ~2900-3000 3dmark06 with the 128mb MBP.

Wow. I only get 2500 on the 163.44 when testing at 1400x900. :(

Yes. Look at the GPU Core/Memory speeds: 470/635 are the 15" 2.4GHz MBP's stock clock speeds. So 475/700 are overclocked. 475MHz Core and 700MHz Memory also happen to be the clock speeds specified by NVIDIA.

yes they have been stable, so far.

you only got 2500 at 1440x900, strange i just checked and i get exactly 2908 3dmark06 with the 163.44 drives and the 165.01 i had before got about 2750.

just on a side note i know that the 256/512mb ddr2 versions are getting around the same benches as my 128mb ddr3 (2900 range) but does anyone know any real-life, in game comparisons between the 2? im finding it hard tracking some down

Which two? The 128MB and 256MB in the 15" MBP? After all, this is the Apple Forum.

I read that as sheldon77 has the 15" 2.2GHz MBP with 128MB GeForce 8600m GT. sheldon77, correct me if I read that wrong.

I can't figure out what's wrong. My scores are ridiculously low. With 101.34, I get 2300. I'm going to switch back to 163.44.

I couldn't seem to overclock 101.34. I used RivaTuner and bumped the Memory to 676 and tested/saved. Rebooted my laptop and the timings went back to normal to around 635. Haven't tried overclocking with 163.44 yet, but will try later.

yeah i have the 128mb version. just checked my records of benches, all done at 1440x900 in 3dmark06.

stock drivers with bootcamp 1.4: 2591

    165.01 drivers: 2791

    163.44 drivers: 2908

hopefully there'll be some future drivers that'll get me over that 3000 3dmark06 hump, because i dont like the idea of overclocking a laptop, especially when it already gets as hot as it does.

its interesting to see the 128mb DDR3 and 256/512mb DDR2 getting around the same 3dmark06 scores but in the WEI the 128mb DDR3 kills the 256/512mb DDR2's. which is why i really want to see some real benchies, eg does anyone know how the DDR2 8600m gt handles bioshock?

    Thanks

    knp and sheldon77,

Your 3DMark06 scores are on par with the 128MB MBP's results in the MBP SR 128MB vs 256MB - Benchmark Compilation thread.

If you want to make comparisons to the 15" MBP with 256MB 8600m GT you should use the Boot Camp Beta v1.4 ForceWare 101.34 drivers and use nTune to overclock your GPU clock speeds to Core=470MHz and Memory=635MHz. You need to change the Core speed, click Apply, then change the Memory speed, and click Apply again. Then your clock speeds will be identical to the 15" 2.4GHz MBP with 256MB 8600m GT and the only differences will be the slower CPU, smaller hard drive, and lower VRAM. You could then compare your 3DMark06 scores to those of the 15" 2.4GHz MBP scores at similar resolutions in a somewhat more accurate environment.

When making a comparison you want to find a system and test results that closely matches yours. So if you use my results you should be running Windows XP Pro, 3DMark06 @ 1440x900 or 1280x1024, Boot Camp Beta v1.4 ForceWare 101.34 (so that you can overclock up to my clock speeds with nTune), etc.
