Hello everyone. I have been thinking about buying a 15in Macbook Pro for about 4-6 months now. I decided to wait for the update & I am unimpressed.

I have never owned a Mac. I have never really bought anything refurbished but from what i hear/read buying a refurb Mac isn't a bad idea. I read that sometimes the "refurb" products are just new ones that need to be sold off once an update happens. If that is even true what are my chances of gettin a "new" one? A buddy of mine bought a refurb macbook 13in and it had some scratches on it. I am pretty picky and would not like that which is why I ask.

Is the applestore refurb section the best place to buy the previous model? Is there any other places still selling it. I was so tempted to just use my edu discount and buy one a couple weeks ago... did I make a mistake waiting?

    Hell yeah man...

Have you seen the discounts? 750 off the $2000 models and 1000 off the models that were 2500+. Great deals.
The refurbs are likely both brand new and ones that have been returned.

Yeah, I would be in for the 2.5ghz one. Seems like a good deal to me as I thought the old mbp's were fine. So it's basically just a toss up might get a return might get a "new" one, no way to tell till I get it in hand probably?

    I found this site:

    http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Sho...321&oext=1038A&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=8254321

It's a bit more but its new and this site seems to have good reviews. Does the machine still come with the 1year warranty and in that time you can buy applecare if you want?

Nah, the Apple refurbs are like new, in the UK anyway. It seems they change everything so usually there isn't even a mark on them.

You should get the Refurb if the curernt gen isn't much of an update to you! Be sure to get Apple care plan along with it since the last gen the gfx card was faulty. Apple will still change your logic board if the card gets fried in two years of purchase I think, but you only have a year time limit to get Apple care plan. Just a suggestion for extra caution : )

At my place of employment, we've bought 4 MacPros and a MacBook Pro in the last year. All of them were from Apple refurbished, with no issues. These units look brand spanking new when you get them. Right now, they are an incredible deal.

I'm leaning towards getting a refurb MBP as well. Just wondering, what's the difference between the refurb MBP's processor compared to the new MBP's?

I'm considering the closeout deals as well. Can anyone comment on whether its worth an extra $200 for the 2.53 ghz version or should I just save the money and get the cheaper 2.4 ghz macbook pro.

Just picked up a 2.5ghz MBP (MB134LL/A) from amazon.com for $1794.00 with free 2 day shipping (amazon prime free trial - cancel it right after order so you dont get charged after 30 days) and it has a $150.00 mail in rebate.

So I just got the MBP that would have cost me $2500.00 last week for $1644.00. I couldnt be happier.

Recently purchased a cheaper refurbished MacBook, no scratches on the case at all. The only some what cosmetic issue, is on the right hand side near the slot CD drive. There is a slight blue mark on the plastic, really nothing major at all. Doesn't bother me at all. Honestly, Apple refurb is the way to go. Excellent condition, no stratches at all to the major areas of the case.
