Just got me a macbook pro yesterday! I'm very happy and not actually having buyer's remorse at all (probably because I've got a potential buyer for my old laptop).

I do have a few questions though... i have 1 dead pixel, which I'm a little miffed at, though it's barely noticeable... is that something that i can do anything about? (ie: if i bring it back and ask to swap out)

I've also done a bootcamp install of Vista Home Premium 64bit, which works lovely, but one thing i noticed is on the load screen when it's all black except for the loading bar, the black looks really splotchy, and I'm not sure if that's some weirdness with the LED backlighting or what...

Other than that, loving it so far! especially the backlit keyboard when it's darker in my apartment :)

People will recommend rubbing the pixel, I recommend against it as it could cause damage to the LCD with too much pressure and there's not been much evidence that it fixes the problem. Now is your pixel "dead" or "stuck"? If it's stuck, it's stuck on a red, green or blue color.

The splotchy look on the screen is from backlight leakage which is typical with LCD's from time to time, it has to do with the manufacturing, it's not defective. Congrats and enjoy.

Laptop makers all have their own return policy on dead pixels; Toshiba, for example, asks for 15 or more dead pixels before an exchange.

Apple is much more lenient. Look it up or call Apple and tell them that the screen has a "problem".

    thanks guys :)
yeah, the backlight thing is not even noticable except during that windows loading screen, so I'm not too concerned. I'm 95% sure the pixel is dead as it looks black to me. Gonna try Dead Pixel Buddy in Vista to be sure. I don't think 1 is a big deal to me. I didn't even notice it except on a white screen, but when you notice it, it sticks in your mind :p

You can also try Pixel Check for OS X.

You do plan on using that new beauty as a"Mac" right? :)

Congrats on your purchase. Take your time to learn OS X (which really won't take long at all) and I'm sure you'll find yourself wanting to use Windows less and less!!

Hey Congrats. I just returned my M15x and I think I will make the plunge on a new MBP as well.

I am thinking about waiting for the new case design, but I am a little worried about new products. Especially fater my m15x nightmare.

    Congrats!

I've had my new MBP for 3 days now, and I love it. :D

I installed Vista Ultimate in Boot Camp, but I'm finding I really love OS X. Still learning it, but it's been excellently intuitive.

That sucks about the dead pixel - I'm anal retentive, so I'd probably try and swap it at the store.

Ya, I was planning on getting the m15x for a while, but I just heard way too many horror stories about it and Alienware. I decided to go with the Macbook Pro. I wouldn't worry too much about new products. The MBP that's out now is great, and it's also been through many revisions (they've had time to perfect it). I took the plunge on the MBP, and I can't wait to get it (it arrives on the 27th :D). Sure, I won't be able to max out all my games on it, but it's good enough for me, and it's coming from a company I've had experience with and trust. I'd say go for it. If you're going to wait, Nahelem would be the thing to wait for, not Montevina.

Congrats dude! Yeah, spend some time in OS X you'll love it!

And that really sucks about the dead pixel. Hope you get it done somehow (even replaced by a new computer).

    Cheers! :D

Lol, yeah I plan on using it as my editing system once I can either get a cheap copy of FCP 5 or FCP Studio 2... $1400 is a whopping price! :(

I just wanted windows for the occasional gaming that I don't do on my desktop and for my Quickbooks accounting software :)

Actually on looking closer, it may not be dead after all...it looked black at first but then i looked really close and it seemed to be redish...so I'm going to see if I can get that fixed up :)

I do find it is running a little bit hot...that normal? I've got a notebook cooler for putting it on my lap, but don't want to always have to resort to that if i just want to browse the web on my couch :)

Oh, and i read something somewhere about a program that helps set your battery health... is there such a thing and where can i find it if so? :)

Congrats on new MBP...I am a new buyer of a MBP as well, for 1 1/2 weeks.

The excitement...I know how you feel. Especially as I was a Windows user before, and OS X is just amazing.

I'm loving the thing right now :) only had minor issues with a dead pixel and splotchy backlight, and a whining sound when running vista 64, but those seem to have been fixed as of last night because the awesome folks at the apple store were great enough to just swap it out for a new one to replace it!
Have yet to install vista again but we'll see how that is.
Got a copy of FCP studio 2 for like $900 cdn off ebay so I'm a very happy man :)

humangobo: We just bought a MPB as well and found the iLap by
Rain Design works quite well at keep heat dissipated while using in bed
or on a couch in your lap. No fans, passive cooler. Has comfortable pads
    attached. Worthy buy.
