Can you really notice a difference in performance between a MacBook 1.83 and 2.0 GHz? i.e., is it worth spending another $150 for it?

(Mostly I'll be using it for internet/word process/spreadsheet/presentations, some programming, some photoshop)

Hmm, not really you can't notice a difference because its too fast anyways. The extra 150 is also part of the SuperDrive which is a DVD Burner as well.

If you don't need one, thatn just get 1.8Ghz and you should do fine. However don't expect to fetch as high as a resale value if you sell it someday. DVD burners are becoming almost standard thing to have nowadays.

The resale difference should be minimal, maybe you'll recover half of the extra 150 if you decide to resell.

However, I would find the DVD burner handy just in case you need to move large files around or need to make a video presentation for school/work/etc. The speed bump will only be noticeable if you're pushing your computer constantly and need the extra boost in power, otherwise say the 1.83GHz CPU is just fine.

Thanks for the answers! (for this and the memory question)

So, I did it! Bought the MacBook, 1.83 GHz with 512 MB RAM, which I will upgrade with memory from Newegg. Decided not to go with the DVD-RW, since I don't care about resale value and I don't anticipate having any large files, or heaven forbid, video presentations (my desktop is the workhorse for stuff like that).

Goodbye Windows, helloooo OS X! yay!
