    Okay,

So I was having problems with my Macbook and iChat earlier. While waiting for advice I decided to load AIM on it to use until I could figure out what to do.

It got halfway into the install at "checking volumes" but would go no further. Restart of the installation same thing, so I figured "Hey i'll give it some time and come back" Nada.

So I decide to see if a restart may do the trick.

    BIG MISTAKE! :(

I hear the chime, see the pretty apple and it's little progress wheel, all is well. Screen changes to the tint of blue like usual again all is fine, but now on the second progress wheel it sits there trying.....repeatedly the background changes between blue tints and the wheel again trys.

This process repeats itself, no booting but I see it's trying.

I zap the pram (ya been with macs awhile). No help there, now my first guess is the hardrive? I will be at my lakehouse tommorow where it just happens I was going to install the 320gig'r I got off newegg and throw it in.

So anyone have any quick work arounds just for the night, all my OS cd's are at lakehouse. Also when I get to the house would it be worth a shot to throw in the other drive before I get apple involved. Apple store is luckily only a little over an hour away if need be.

Good thing I brought this pc laptop for gaming so atleast I have a computer to use.

    Thnx!

Sounds like the motherboard is screwed. Especially considering your ichat problems earlier.

Try booting in safe mode. I forget the exact key combo, but if you google it, I know apple has a KB article on it somewhere.

Just tried it, this time it stayed with the apple on the screen longer. I guess it was trying safe mode. Then it gave up and went to the next screen where it would repeatedly try to load with no luck. :(

I haven't had a mac repaired in a long time (since my ibook g3). If I bring it to the local apple store, assuming its a major repair/ replacement of a part, about what would you guess the turnaround would be in me getting it back?

I mean it's no immediate hurry I still have my PC desktop, but my MB is my leisure have fun with machine and i'll miss it

it really depends on turnaround time, sometimes they will just hand you a new unit and send you on your way but on the other hand I have seen units gone to depot for 8 weeks. It has more to do with the retailer and/or service options in your area

You can try booting into the Boot camp partition if you have one. Otherwise, if you have a second mac, you could try Target disk mode.

Thnx, I was hoping it was something simple not hardware. Especially since it has a 320gig drive ready to go into it, and i'll be using your guide colton to do so :)

Well thanks! :) Although my guide isn't for the White MB, it's about the same principal on what to do, with a few changes on how to swap the HDD's. ;)
