Sorry to clutter the forum with a question like this; but google didn't yield any answers.

Now, the fan on my MB is annoyingly noisy above 2000rpm. The grinding, whining, mooing sound first made its appearance a couple of months after I bought the machine. It's much more frequent now.

    i) I've lost the receipt to my MB, do I need it for an appointment at the Apple store?

ii) The MB was purchased in September; I've no Apple Care. It's still within warranty, is it not?

iii) Er....does any of you know how much it costs to replace a fan?

iv) For how long do I have to wait?

Thanks. And sorry again for the cluttering.

    i) No. Your name and pertinent info should be on hand at the Store.
ii) Yes. The warranty period is one full year.
iii) Shouldn't cost anything under warranty, Raymond.
iv) If you mean for repair, probably only a few minutes if a fan is handy in the store - less than a week (I really doubt this one) if the machine must be returned to Apple for a new fan, or if one must be ordered.

I was at the Apple store about six months back to exchange my iPhone. The one I was at required an appointment, but it didn't sound like a huge deal. I would just suggest not showing up at closing time like I did. I didn't know you needed an appointment for the Genius Bar so showing up late wasn't too smart. It was only through my superior persuasion skills that I was able to get in. That and the fact I mentioned I had just driven some distance to get there and did not want to have to come back. They were pretty helpful in that respect.

Good point, Zaz. You can make appointments online, though, to make your visit less stressful.

Thanks a lot. I should really take care of this annoying fan during the spring break.
