I just got myself a used macbook from a friend of mine. I would usually format it out of the box, but I guess that's not an option. I deleted everything I can think of, but I couldn't change the Admin's short name. Need help on that and any other advice is welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

Make a new admin account, give it all privileges, log into the new admin account, delete the old admin account.

You add and delete accounts using the + and - buttons below the listing of users in the Accounts panel of the System Preferences.

How do I change the name of the BT device? It's still reading "John's Bluetooth device".

You can also reinstall everything from the install DVDs.

I am happy to help, but it's not that I know these things off the top of my head, it's just that it's usually not too hard to figure out things in OS X.

So... I go to my System Preferences > Bluetooth panel, choose the settings pane, and there under the Bluetooth device name, it says "The device name is the same as the Computer Name in Sharing preference."

I then go to System Prefereces > Sharing, and right there at the top you can type in your computer name of choice.
