I currently use my 15" Macbook pro on my lap and it gets pretty hot at times depending on what i am doing Istat shows a CPU temp of between 135 and 178. I was wondering if the new Macbooks and Macbook Pro's are running a bit cooler?

Depends on what you're doing when the temps get there - intensive cpu tasks (encoding, video chat, etc) will bump into the 70s+ and that is totally normal.

Just idling/surfing with those temps, then you have an issue :).
