I am thinking of buying a new iMac but need to know if Windows 7 x64 will run fine without any issues. I read someone talking about audio issues in W7, has that been resolved?
Thanks for any help/insight.

I have the older 24" iMac (in my sig) and have Windows 7 x64 running flawlessly. Everything works, including KB screen brightness control and disk Eject, iSight, audio etc....
Here's the thing though (if memory serves me); Bootcamp 3 (from the SL disk) wouldn't install at all giving an error that iMacs do not support the 64 bit version of Windows (which is/was true according to an Apple document). Everything does work and Windows Update installed the correct drivers on its own, except for the Realtek audio driver. What I had to do was put in the Snow Leopard disk, go to the Drivers sub-folder under the BootCamp folder and ran the Realtek driver .exe and it installed fine. Rebooted and the sound worked.
However, not having Bootcamp installed was a limitation mainly due to not having iSight driver, and no proper Mac keyboard support (for screen brightness, audio controls and eject button etc...)
So I started fresh after finding the following trick on Macrumors' forum. After windows 7 is installed and having the SL disk in the drive, I had to do was this:
Right click on command prompt and select run as admin then enter the following 3 commands (change the first line with the appropriate letter if your optical drive is mapped with a different letter than D: )
cd /d D:
cd Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple
BootCamp64.msi
That forced-installed BC3 and everything just works now. I tried it also on a friend's iMac and it worked great. Now, I'm not sure if you need to do this on the new iMacs. You may not have to but I'm not sure. -
One more thing guys -
Don't forget to run Apple Software Update once you've done this to get the BootCamp 3.1 driver update, which resolves some audio issues and gives you better Magic Mouse and Keyboard support, in addition to updating several chipset drivers for better Win7 Compatibility. -
Yeah, actually it updated automatically. I got a notification shortly afterwards that a bootcamp update (3.1) was available and all you have to do is accept it to start the download and installation. It's a rather large update (over 250MB I think) but frankly I haven't noticed a single bit of difference between after and before that update. Nevertheless, one should update to the latest BC.
