What it apparently do was correct the temperture sensors, which many are reporting the update caused their temperture report to go up. It would fall in line with my belief that the random shutdowns seem to start after v. 1.0 of this update, it would make sense.

Because of the update I'm usually running 58-62C now. Under full load it goes up to 88C

You can download either CoreDuoTemp (which you can google) or iStat, which is a widget. However I believe iStat uses CoreDuoTemp to get it's temperture readings anyways.

I didn't check to see if smcFanControl still even works after the new update, I really don't like to mess with factory set settings.

It doesn't make any permanent changes really.... literally all it does is just change the minimum fanspeed, so that it will make the fans run at a higher speed than minimum. Especially if the temps are as bad as you reported, it seems like it would be worth it. You can set the smcFanControl app as a Login Item that autohides so that it will run each time you login, but otherwise the settings changes it makes are forgotten once you reboot, until you launch the app again.

Given that other people seem to have gotten their temps down from 58-62 and higher to the 48-50 range even by just boosting the minimum fanspeed from 1500 to 2500, it seems like it could be worth trying out.
