All are rumours at the moment, its not a good idea to have your mind set on it happening just yet. As more news feeds come in, then it'll be a safer time to predict.

But they're just throwing out numbers right now, so I'd like to throw one too, let's see if that gets any coverage :p. New Macs October 21st!

Also, I moved this to the Apple forum, that's where it belongs, thanks!

There could be a chance, but no one knows, if we don't hear anything about invites before the 23 of sept, then no.

If both are getting redesigns, I expect it to warrant an event, so we'll know a week in advance or so as they send out invites to the press. If its just minor speed bumps, I don't believe they'd wait this long. So I do expect redesigns. Mac Mini may get revamped too, Apple realizes that its not a success and since they haven't discontinued it then I believe they have something much better up their sleeve.

October 14th actually is a quite reasonable date. It makes sense, to say the least. I'd wait for a few more confirmations before really believing it though!

lol, I will be waiting for my new Sony Z to come. If the new Mac pro is that good, then the Z will be on its way back to sony within 30 days. lol BTW, the Z is more expensive than Mac pro so it's a saving for me and + 1 for Apple

No nothing will happen Sept 16th, Why? for 1 it's 4 days away and they haven't sent out any invites. 2nd the whole point of doing two events is so something doesn't get lost in the media, the ipods are still buzzing around. Who ever started the Sept 16th rumor was stupid, it won't happen.

It kinda bums me out that now the unofficial date is oct 14th. I was really hoping they would announce everything in one event, mainly because my parents are going away to dallas on business, and I had already made plans for them to bring me a new mbp or mb (depending on design changes) and a 32gig ipod touch, among other crap.

d@mn apple and their timing... now i will have to wait til xmas :(

My brother is a DIE HARD Mac fanboy so I'll definitely inform him about the new line. He's had his current MacBook for a while now and I think it's time he upgraded it.

Personally I love my Windows but you'll never hear me deny that Mac's look sexy as hell.

I hear though that Apple is very strict though about it's software/hardware. Like REALLY strict bordering on psycho. Anyone care to elaborate?

I'm interested to see if they try to pull off the Air look/design with the tapering edges, since the MB/MBP are a full 1/4 inch or 30% thicker. They can make it look natural on the MBP, but the MB might be difficult to get that look, I think, since its got the same footprint as the MBP.

I'm deciding between a buying Sony VIAO Z now, or waiting for a new Macbook Pro, and hoping it is at least 4 lbs or less with a DVD player built in. I can wait a month, but not much longer. I can't imagine a Apple would release something this huge AFTER the holidays. I hope I'm right. All the rumblings I've read and heard say 10/14 is DDay.

I brought my Macbook in for repair and got into a fairly long conversations with one of the "geniuses" who, if possible, is just a bit too enthusiastic about his own company. In any event, he's convinced (though he wouldn't say why) we'll see new Macs by October, so I wouldn't fret about a January release.

Also, with the new development of the crumbling economy in all sectors, Apple would be gambling dangerously if they waited a few months before releasing their new product line. By January, the US will be in a serious recession and possibly on its way to depression, which means a rapidly shrinking customer base. Steve Jobs and company would be silly to wait and lose all the potential profits of those who have yet to lose their homes/careers/savings in the market collapse.

Its a matter of smart business. Hence the iPods only a month before the laptops.

I wonder what features Apple will incorporate into their new lineup. Are the rumors of a new Nividia chipset still circulating? Any other new features? I'd expect ddr3 ram, Penryn, SDD, and Nvida 9-series graphics card to be standard upgrades... Almost all other major manufactures have updated their lineups to reflect these developments. Is apple working on something completely new and innovative? Didn't its CFO say during its last conference call that they're working on new products which may cut profit margins?

It would be cool if the MBP 2008 Fall Edition contains the following:

    1. Quad-core mobile processor
    2. ATI Radeon Mobile Graphics (whats the fastest Radeon IGP available now?)
    3. Color options (black would be my choice, but I'd be in favor of silver and a dark blue as well)
    4. ATI graphics (oh wait, that was #2)
    5. Octo-core!
    6. 14.1-inch MBP option
    7. All that for a price under $1500

Is that too much to ask for? :D

I've been waiting for a new macbook model for 2 months.... Finally settled for a new thinkpad instead. I'll be so burned if they release a new line a few weeks after I get my thinkpad T_T

Now I should pray for OS X support on non-Mac computers.

I too was waiting for a refreshed MBP and still am, in the mean time I purchased a Sony Z590 that I am tying on now - I got the high res screen and upgraded the ram to 4GB and the HD to 7200 RPM Seagate 320GB - so far loving this machine - we will see what the MBP has to offer soon! I just could not wait any longer - if the MBP is that much better I will sell this one. I still have to sell my SZ as well.
