With the new C2D macbook pros out, they've upped the RAM limit to 3 GB (1 x 2GB, 1 x 1GB). But since the RAM are different sizes, doesn't that mean you can't dual channel? Or something like that? Can someone explain the whole RAM thing to me?

Yep. But it really doesn't mind much since the MBP has a dedicated GPU, and also you would benefit much more from the extra RAM than the subtle smaller lags.

so if I bought 2GB of RAM from apple which would be standard, I could just put in any 1GB from another source and it should work ok (assuming of course it is the right type)?

If you buy one 2GB stick, and one 1GB stick. I think the 2GB standard is 2x1GB. So no.

The funny thing is, is that everyone over at the Dell side is shouting how one of their high end machines can do 4GB now! ;)

I guess Apple keeps the competition going.
