Hi all, I'm really tired of my new 2015 macbook pro 15 retina because of constant heating problems, and I'm only surfing the net or watching a movie while it gets really hot for no reason.

Anyway I'm running Windows 7 on it because i just like it better but I think the problem is with the card heat, it has the Geforce gt 750m and the GPU memory is constantly 90%+, is that it?

Anyway i did some screenshots of temperatures, i'm only surfing the new with chrome open and some tabs and it's quite burning that I can't have the laptop on the legs or on couch near me, any ideas what to do?

If you're running windows through bootcamp, you will be using the GeForce 100% of the time, no way around it. Your temperatures are far from overheating, you are still within safe thresholds by a far margin.

Other things you can do: make sure the heatsinks are free of dust and/or repaste it. The latter is likely to void your warranty though.

On a side note: aluminium is a very good heat conductor, so it will get hot to the touch more easily than a notebook made of something like a PC/ABS blend.

Are you using Chrome by any chance? If so, try an alternative browser, could help a bit.

Install: https://gfx.io/ and control you GPU settings to minimize the utilization of the GT 750m by closing specific applications or windows within your browser to reduce the overall stress of your system.

OP is using Windows. Nothing you can do about the GPU there.

One thing to try would be to disable turbo boost on the CPU. To do this, go into the advanced properties of the power plan you're using and change the maximum CPU percentage to 99%. This should help keep temperatures a bit more in line, but other than taking apart the system and repasting or getting a different machine all together, there's not a whole lot else you can do.

I agree. I have the 2.8 mpb and disabling the turbo boost has dropped my average temps about 20 degrees.

    You can use:

    Intel Extreme Tuning Utility: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-

    or

    Throttlestop: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2667/throttlestop-8-10-beta-2

Both will stop the turbo boost and lower your temps. My systems averages about 50 degrees while surfing.

Just asking, why is gpu under 100% load when in bootcamp?

also, your ssd is 98% full? i heard it isn't great for ssd to be more than approximately 75% full (idk where i heard that from)

It's not that the GPU is under 100% load, but that the Mac's version of automatic graphic switching is not compatible with Windows. As such, only the discreet GPU is active instead of both it and the integrated Intel one as it would be in Mac OS.

Graphic card switching does not function correctly here on anything but Mac OSX. Windows does not work for this function.

It also may be time for a repaste. I recommend Antec Formula 7 or GC Extreme, Liquid Ultra if you're brave enough
