I was thinking about getting a MacBook but was on the fence about the screen. Tonight I pop over to http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Portable_Macs and was surprised to new ones should be coming out soon.

Makes me wonder if Apple will release Snow Leopard the same time as the new hardware?

Erm, just because MR's buyer's guide says so, doesn't mean it will happen. Case in point: The Mac Mini and Cinema displays – both were way overdue for an update, yet it just dragged on and on.

Anyway, next revision will be a speed bump only.

Latest analysis and speculation I've seen on the rumor sites have Apple demo-ing Snow Leopard/Juno for the public developer community at the WWDC in early June (8-12), and then following historical precedent and doing a public release ~2 months later.

"New" hardware. I'm waiting for them to dump the plastic MacBook and make the aluminum MB the standard $1k model.

Snow Leopard, yeah, WWDC, same time as the new iPhone is supposed to be announced.

I am well aware of that.
Notice the eloquent use of grammar to show how the non-happening update was a thing of the past:

I just hope they bring fw400 or even better yet fw800 on the new upcoming macbooks.

Only thing keeping me away from the macbooks are their crappy screens. I tried to love one but man the screen esepcially the viewing angle is horrible. I guess I was spoiled by the 15" mbp's screen. To me purchasing a notebook, its screen is in the top 3 priorities as thats the part you use ALL the time.

CPU, Screen quality GPU is my order of things thats important to me.

One way to get that screen to look better would be to switch to a solid color like blue. A firend of mine switched to a solid color and now it looks a bit better. They definitely should have used a better screen in those Macbooks and not to forget to have stuck some better speakers in there!! The speakers on a Sony Ericsson phone sound better than the speakers on the $1500 Macbook!

lol...In all fairness, the speakers on my unibody MBP suck too. My old SR MBP's speakers were significantly better.

I hope they throw in some better speakers on their new Macbooks. One would have thought their laptops would offer better speakers than the standard laptops or netbooks on the market especially since they have Itunes and push music and movies. Who wants to listen to music, watch a movie or chat with someone on a laptop with worse speakers than a cheap cell phone??

The laptops are advertised and marketed as multimedia computers and they should come with better speakers and screen then they offer them with. If they are worried about cost then they should at least offer that as an option for the customer because I would certainly fork out another $100 for better speakers and $100 for a better screen.

I have the new Macbook Pro but this thing is a freakin brick!! It's nice if you use it at home but try taking it with you on a trip! The only reason I bought the new Macbook pro over the regular Macbook was because the screen quality and speaker quality was by far better than what came on the standard Macbook.
I'm not sure about others but I woulod rather pay $1700 and get a laptop with a nice screen and good speakers rather then spend $1500 and a get a laptop with a shi**y screen and shi**y speakers.

Looks like they've changed their recommendation back to "Neutral - Mid product cycle".

P.S. I'm very happy with my MBP that I picked up 10 days ago.

I think they should shave half the size off of it, and add in a subwoofer while they are at it.

I just saw on an anandtech article that some time in 2010, apple will rollout the "macbook we all really want", but didn't go into details. I'll see if I can find that article...

    EDIT: I found it.

    Also here he mentions,
So it could be interesting to see what happens in the coming year. :D

LOL, I like the premise "the MacBook we all really want", and then he goes on to focus on the processor. A processor? Although a processor is rather important, I care more about ergonomics, screen size/general size and weight, screen resolution, useability - as in ports and battery life, and general support and quality. The processor? As it is, I'm "downgrading" from a 2.33gHz core2duo to a 1.86gHz LV core2duo, recognizing my needs and what I really want.

Edit: Of course it's okay to focus on the processor. It's Anandtech, so. I just doubt that most people buy computers based on a premise of "Eh, I want Nehalem" or whatever flavour of the day might be.
