are you new around these parts? ^_^ see that thing in your signature? see all the regulation going on in these parts?

I just feel bad with all these random threads popping up needing moderation, I thought I would do something thoughtful, as well as slightly adding to said random thread problem :)

How about I set up a fund for a new MacBook for Sam? For serious. You guys Paypal me whatever you want, post it in this thread, and we'll keep a tally? As soon as I get enough to cover a $1299 model for Sam, it's his. I even get a student discount since my wife is doing her masters. :)

Whatcha all think? If you guys agree to this, be SURE to put a note in the Paypal payment who you are, so I can give you all credit. I'm putting in $20 straight away. I'll create a new "official" thread and put myself in it. :)

We're trying to pool enough money together to get Sam a new MacBook (the $1299 model). This is because Sams is a KICK BUTT moderator, and to say thank you (and he deserves it), we're doing this.

I'm currently contributing $20 towards it, and this post will be edited as people contribute.

If you want to contribute, PM me for my Paypal address, and we'll keep a running total. Please donate! Even if it's only $5, every $5 helps!

Sam has been the most awesome moderator, ALWAYS helping out whenever possible. Heck, even when gets away from NBR for a week or two, he always checks in and makes sure all is running smoothly. Basically, people, he deserves it. It's quite simple. I frequent a ton of boards, and there's nobody like Sam.

    DO IT. DO IT NOW!

let me know if this is actually going to happen WilliamG, I can most likely get a better discount than the student one.

like I said in the other thread, I am a student, at a private art school (= bloody expensive) but I will definitely do my best.

in fact, I will probably be doing a review of the new MBP some time soon. if that happens and I get any type of compensation out of it from this site, it is going straight to this fund.

and on that note, come on people! don't go out to eat for lunch or dinner! don't buy that flash drive! don't buy those . . . Tostitos, or something, and CONTRIBUTE!

at the very least we can get him a copy of Leopard or a display or something.

WilliamG you should really lay out a nice description of what Sam contributes to these forums.

I may cook up a little signature banner/link to this thread as well.

Macs are expensive as is... and most people on these forums are looking to buy a mac themselves, many of them can barely scrape enough dough to afford one of their own(me included)... so I do not think many donations is realistic, unfortunately. Although Sam is a really great mod.

No offense, but modding is Sam's job here, and I'm sure he mostly enjoys it and loves us. I'm surprised he hasn't put the kibosh on this little exercise already, because honestly, the economy sucks and any charity people can spare is better spent on things less frivolous than a macbook for a forum moderator. Just saying.

since when do Forum Moderators get paid?

people will be spending their money on MUCH MUCH MUCH more frivolous things than contributing to a extremely courteous person.

this coming from someone with Shopaholic in their signature? ^_^

I didn't say he got paid - I said it's his job. Being a forum moderator is usually a choice, and the people that do it generally enjoy it. Sam is a great contributor around here, especially to us Mac users and NBR apple core, that's not really a question.

Oh for pete's sake, just forget it. Good luck raising your $1300.

When I get mine before the end of the year I could contribute. I'd be so happy to have my new lappy you could write me down for $30-$50. Actually I was thinking of this a long time ago, buying leopard on amazon and sending it to him, not sure if he has it now but I remember him telling me he didn't... a long time ago. So yeah I guess this could be a merger for a bigger donation thinger. Count me in.

Dude, I would rather give that money for nets for people in Africa than giving it to someone who cannot upgrade to the latest version of a computer. Believe it or not, there are much worse things in life than not being able to get the latest Macbook. If you actually want to do something significant you would donate to a charity, not to a moderator of a forum(no disrespect Sam).

    A. Sam didn't buy his macbook in the first place, he won it in a contest.

    Hey guys,

Its great to see all this response, definitely thanks for the whole concept and support, that would probably be the greatest form of gratitude people could show, when they're willing to part from their money :D. But I can't accept any donations of that sort for my job as a Moderator here: its a volunteer job that I was asked to take on, and I accepted it, hoping I could do my part in improving the forum and making it an enjoyable place for everyone.

Yes, I am broke :p, but at the same time nor am I in desperate need for money. I have a MacBook that runs perfectly fine (not that I bought it in the first place, I couldn't afford it then anyway; this MacBook was won in a website design contest), I have a rather powerful desktop computer that after four years I managed to convince my dad to get me.

I support Stunner's notion, thank you William and Circa86 especially since you two were the main supporters of the initiative, but I am far from the least fortunate person on Earth! If you have money to spend and no idea what to spend it on, I strongly suggest donations!

And 00fez, I still don't have Mac OS X Leopard :D. At this rate, I'm probably skipping it altogether and possibly getting Snow Leopard!
