I have recently decided I wanted a MBP instead of an iMac, if my parents allow me to get it for the holidays - :( . Anywho, I was wondering....

    1. When you start up the computer, is Leopard or Tiger preinstalled?
    2. If not, does Leopard come free with the computer?
    3. Is there ANY OS on the system? Or just Tiger? Thanks

You will have an OS when you get the computer.

I'm pretty sure (95%) that whatever mac you get now will come pre loaded with leopard. Unless you're getting it from some third party store, thats being cheap and not putting leopard on.

Right... most, if not all Apple computers are shipping with Leopard (pre-installed) now. If it still has Tiger, it will probably have Leopard upgrade discs.

By now, most Macs should be shipping with Leopard pre-installed. If not, the box will have Leopard Upgrade Discs in it, so you don't have to worry about that.

I bought my MBP two days ago at my local futureshop. It came with Tiger installed and in the box there was a drop-in DVD of Leopard. So i've done a clean install of Leopard, surprise ! no more ilife ! Well, i may be able to solve that "little" probem :)

I've had so many damn problems with leopard and restarts i'm seriously considering reinstalling Tiger. I've never in my entire life had to restart a windows machine this much.

As for you felin you should have iLife on your tiger disk in the box.

That's because iLife is bundled with the Mac, not the operating system. This is often confused. Getting Mac OS X Leopard will not get you iLife '08, if you didn't have that previously.

You can get iLife '08 in Tiger Install Disc 2.

    Lets see...

Kernal panic caused by the airport driver when running bittorrent.

A lagging mouse and performance when waking from sleep.

Unresponsive programs and being unable to force quit.

and just recently the function commands stopping working (brightness, etc) and nothing else worked.

    Clean install, second one.

My MBP arrived on Dec 11th, and it came preloaded with Tiger, with the Leopard disc in the box.
